What Are You Doing with Your SM Coins?
« on: 07/10/13 10:19 AM »

Question... What are you doing with your coin?

I think it might be interesting to hear about the creative ways that others display or keep their coins.
Currently, I keep mine on my desk as a paper weight. (Not so creative.)

Cargo shorts are convenient for carrying multiple coins in separate pockets.

I like to let people touch the coins and feel the weight,...

I am happy to contribute my share to the site.

I have most certainly gained much more in the way of money saved and knowledge than I have spent.

I want to thank the administrators for doing a great job keeping this site organized and relevant.

I also intend to keep adding to my SM coin collection in the future, if possible.

The site does not require anyone to pay to be a member and if it wasn't for the few members that are willing to contribute a small amount of funds, the site itself would probably not even exist.

So I don't think what they are doing is a racket, but instead a pretty generous model for everyone involved.

Also, just so you know, they won't take the SM coins for a pass line bet at the craps table.

Don't get me wrong here...I was kidding about the "racket", hence the "   :P  " face.

I knew about supporting members, but didn't realize there was a coin.  I have often thought of becoming one myself    ( a supporter, not a coin  :beating:  ) but something always managed to get in the way of my wallet when it crossed my mind, such as being unemployed for these past seven and a half months.  I know I had plenty of opportunity over the last six years or so that I've been a member of this wonderful group...more like a family...to contribute funds.  Just like listening to NPR and not thinking of it until the fund drive and that's usually when I didn't have money to spare.  Makes you stop and think, how many of us on here never think of contributing financially to keep the site up and running, until we are financially unable to do so.  Money makes the world go 'round...and keeps us bliss.  I do take this site for granted...and I am humbled by those that do give.  I can only hope that my lack of financial support over the years has been rectified by my humorous interjections, comic relief and, hopefully, insightful topic input.  I know I have gotten more than my fair share of free information and tips from all these wonderful folks.

I thank everyone that contributes financially, as well as managerially, to make all this happen.  I also thank all those that provide their knowledge and experience to the rest of us.  I also thank all the rest for asking the questions that keep us glued to our computers, in hopes of helping...or just satisfying our curiosity.  I have mentioned before about the lack of comradery on other automotive enthusiast forums...and how this site is by far the most friendly, willing and forgiving.

It's all good, ms38w.

I knew what you meant.

And like I said, I intend to continue to contribute as long as it's "possible".

So far, I have had a little extra coin to toss their way.

That might not always be the case.

Sometimes life just gets in the way.

I'm just glad we can all take advantage of the site whether we are able to chip in or not.

I just received my decal and coin today. Where do most members display the decal? Back window? Which side? When I joined it said I would receive the decal and a free gift. I guess the coin I received is the free gift. No problem there. I do remember posting somewhere that if they are sending a tee shirt, don't bother unless they have a size of Gorilla extra large. Guess they took me to heart and sent the coin. I will keep the coin in the AV with me.

I have a handful of coins and decals I'm unsure what to do with.

The envelope the coin came in feels rather soft,...
I was thinking about using it for toilet tissue in an emergency

Now that I have a seven I might put a half dozen of them in a flag display case on my fireplace mantel and keep just one loose to carry. I'll use a piece of poster board so they don't leave indents in my father's service flag.

Dad would laugh and say, "How did you get the coins in there?"

Challenge coins, we should have a challenge who can come up with the best Rube Goldberg device which means a machine, contraption, invention, device, or apparatus that is a deliberately over-engineered or overdone machine that performs a very simple task in a very complicated fashion.

Insert your AV coin then mayhem ensues before a matchbox size AV rolls out.

I have seen Matchbox Avalanches, but only Gen I (clad sides).  Do they make the Gen II's?  ???
