Greetings from your Southern Indiana coordinator!! It's been a LONG TIME since I've planned a GTG, but Nationals really got me pumped up, so I'm planning 2!!! The first one is going to be for Holiday World and Splashing Safari located in Santa Clause, Indiana! HW&SS is a wonderful family fun park with multiple "Golden Ticket" awards. One of the most decorated parks in the country. They have some of the best rides around, including:
The Voyage: #1 Wooden Coaster in the nation, according to TIME magazine. You?ll experience 24.3 seconds of zero-G, one of the steepest drops on any wooden coaster and 90-degree banking at highway speeds!
The Mammoth: One of TWO Water Roller coasters in the water park, and they are the two longest in the world! (Hopefully the weather stays warm so that the water is warm - otherwise they may be chilly rides!)
Rides for the kids
Mild rides for those who can't handle the wild ones.
Wild Rides for the more adventurous types.
Now, this isn't Cedar Point or Six Flags. At this time they do not have a metal coaster, but installation is happening now for their first one to open next season. It is going to be the first of its kind in the US! So we may plan another GTG there next year.
For those who will need lodging, camping or something of that nature, you can visit their site here for more information on where to stay or camp. I will be driving down from Jasper, so if you're going to book a hotel, maybe consider one there and we can cruise down.
If we can get 15 people to come we will get a group discount, but I will need those numbers fairly quickly to reserve them.
Hours of operation on September 13th are 9:30-6:30 CDT for Holiday World, and 10:30-5:30 for Splashing Safari.
OH! I almost forgot!! One of the great things about HWSS is that they have UNLIMITED Soft drinks throughout the park for FREE all day long!!! Also, they have sunblock lotion for free in the water park as well, just in case you forget yours! Locker rentals in the water park, lots of great shows throughout the day, great food and of course, games galore.
Now I have been asked to be sure to leave time for Modding, so I'll take some feedback from you on this. We could mod before heading over - there's a great place behind my house in Jasper to do this...and if we mod until noon and then cruise down we gain an hour as the county I'm in is on eastern time...its about a 30 min drive. Or, we can wait and mod afterwards, but we'll have to have some lights. Any thoughts?
To sum it up:
When: Saturday, Sept. 13th, time TBD
Where: Meet in Jasper, or at the park in Santa Clause
Cost: Tickets to the park are $39.95 if purchased online ahead of time, $44.95 at the gate. Group rates available if we get 15+ to sign up.
So, how does a fun day of some minor mods and major fun sound? Who's up for it!?!
Okay gang...the plans have changed. Due to inclement weather expected (temps will be a high of 69), we have opted to change this from the park to just doing mods and hanging out. Here's the proposal:
Get together around 10:00 EDT to do some mods, hang out and whatever else comes up. Around 12:30-1:00 we'll go together to have lunch at either the Schnitzelbank Restaurant
where you can get their famous "Bratzel" that was featured during the superbowl in Indy last year, or (my personal favorite) Snaps which is more quaint and I have a beer mug here.
After we eat we can take a cruise to check out West Baden Springs Hotel and/or maybe visit the French Lick Winery. For those interested you can also go to the Casino in French Lick (on your own).
Return to Jasper around 5:00 EDT or so.
OR, after lunch we can cruise to St. Meinrad Monestary for some great pictures, take a look in this centuries old church, and visit the Abby Press gift shop. I am also holding out hope that we will have an opportunity to go to Santa's Candy Castle for their 64 oz. Frozen Hot Chocolate!! I still haven't heard from them though.
