Greetings from your Southern Indiana coordinator!!  It's been a LONG TIME since I've planned a GTG, but Nationals really got me pumped up, so I'm planning 2!!!    The first one is going to be for Holiday World and Splashing Safari located in Santa Clause, Indiana!  HW&SS is a wonderful family fun park with multiple "Golden Ticket" awards.  One of the most decorated parks in the country.  They have some of the best rides around, including:

The Voyage: #1 Wooden Coaster in the nation, according to TIME magazine. You?ll experience 24.3 seconds of zero-G, one of the steepest drops on any wooden coaster and 90-degree banking at highway speeds!

The Mammoth: One of TWO Water Roller coasters in the water park, and they are the two longest in the world!  (Hopefully the weather stays warm so that the water is warm - otherwise they may be chilly rides!)

Rides for the kids

Mild rides for those who can't handle the wild ones.

Wild Rides for the more adventurous types.

Now, this isn't Cedar Point or Six Flags.  At this time they do not have a metal coaster, but installation is happening now for their first one to open next season.  It is going to be the first of its kind in the US!  So we may plan another GTG there next year. :)

For those who will need lodging, camping or something of that nature, you can visit their site here for more information on where to stay or camp.  I will be driving down from Jasper, so if you're going to book a hotel, maybe consider one there and we can cruise down.

If we can get 15 people to come we will get a group discount, but I will need those numbers fairly quickly to reserve them.

Hours of operation on September 13th are 9:30-6:30 CDT for Holiday World, and 10:30-5:30 for Splashing Safari.

OH!  I almost forgot!!  One of the great things about HWSS is that they have UNLIMITED Soft drinks throughout the park for FREE all day long!!!  Also, they have sunblock lotion for free in the water park as well, just in case you forget yours!  Locker rentals in the water park, lots of great shows throughout the day, great food and of course, games galore.

Now I have been asked to be sure to leave time for Modding, so I'll take some feedback from you on this.  We could mod before heading over - there's a great place behind my house in Jasper to do this...and if we mod until noon and then cruise down we gain an hour as the county I'm in is on eastern time...its about a 30 min drive.  Or, we can wait and mod afterwards, but we'll have to have some lights. :)  Any thoughts?

To sum it up:

When: Saturday, Sept. 13th, time TBD

Where: Meet in Jasper, or at the park in Santa Clause

Cost: Tickets to the park are $39.95 if purchased online ahead of time, $44.95 at the gate.  Group rates available if we get 15+ to sign up.

So, how does a fun day of some minor mods and major fun sound?  Who's up for it!?!

Okay gang...the plans have changed.  Due to inclement weather expected (temps will be a high of 69), we have opted to change this from the park to just doing mods and hanging out.  Here's the proposal:

Get together around 10:00 EDT to do some mods, hang out and whatever else comes up.  Around 12:30-1:00 we'll go together to have lunch at either the Schnitzelbank Restaurant
where you can get their famous "Bratzel" that was featured during the superbowl in Indy last year, or (my personal favorite) Snaps which is more quaint and I have a beer mug here. :)

After we eat we can take a cruise to check out West Baden Springs Hotel and/or maybe visit the French Lick Winery.  For those interested you can also go to the Casino in French Lick (on your own).

Return to Jasper around 5:00 EDT or so.

OR, after lunch we can cruise to St. Meinrad Monestary for some great pictures, take a look in this centuries old church, and visit the Abby Press gift shop.  I am also holding out hope that we will have an opportunity to go to Santa's Candy Castle for their 64 oz. Frozen Hot Chocolate!!  I still haven't heard from them though.

Who's coming?

This sounds like a blast!!
You can add DirtyGirlAva and I to the list.

It's a 7 hr drive for us, so we're gonna have to skip out of work on Friday!!  >:D

We have to renew our passports this week, but they should be returned to us by this date.

Just holiday world?
and Splashing Safari, weather permitting. Afterwards we will likely hit Santa's Candy Castle for an Avalanche shake, and maybe to Jasper for dinner unless we find something in the Santa Clause area. I will look into that more.

I wanna attempt the Avalanche!!!
The Avalanche is a gigantic 64oz version (1/2 gallon) of frozen hot chocolate. It's the world's largest cocoa beverage!!!

The Mrs got wind (out of the north) about this so count us in!

yeah, I saw that this morning. Then again, weathermen are the only ones who can be 95% wrong and still have a job. ;)

For the 5th year in a row HW&SS's "Wildebeest" has won the #1 waterpark ride in the world. (This was at the "Academy Awards of the theme park industry this past Saturday)

The Mammoth got 3rd.  Two of the top waterpark rides in the world, and it looks like it may be too cold to ride them!!  :E:

Still, there are many other rides, and afterwards we'll be hitting the "Santa's Candy Castle" to see who can complete the "Avalanche challenge"!!  I don't know how everyone feels about a meal afterwards.  The park closes at 6:30 CDT - which is 7:30 EDT, so I'll likely eat in the park well before then.

I'll update the original post in the next day or two with the exact schedule.  I'm thinking about doing mods at the hotel where Oak is staying (in Ferdinand, IN) until about 11:00 EDT, and starting the cruise then to head down to HW.

I think we're out for the park - neither one of us is into rollercoasters these days - they just beat up us over 50 folks too much.  Most of the other rides there are too tame.  The waterpark is nice but as noted it's going to be too cold for it.  We'll probaby come down to see everyone either before the park during the modding or afterwards at the Candy Castle.

:E: :E: :E: :E: :E: :E: :E: :E: :E: :E: :E:

I just went to the Santas Candy Castle website and they are closed for private parties through the 20th!!

I've sent them an email asking if there is any way we can get our Avalanche Club in...they loved us the last time we came through, so I'm hoping they will squeeze us in.

:help:

Sounds good Steven!  I've got replacement DRL/Foglight housings that should be delivered tomorrow so I've got a modding candidate for us!  (Both of the ones on the truck now are quite hazed over but passenger side is loose - seems to have a broken tab or something on the center of the truck side of the unit.)

For those unfamiliar with the area, there are some interesting driving roads in the area - this is not flat cornfields northern Indiana!  We actually did a Sunday drive late afternoon/early evening down to French Lick in the 'vette this past Sunday and spent an hour or so playing video poker machines in the casino there.  The West Baden Hotel used to be one of the 7 wonders of world - it was the largest unsupported (other than the perimeter) roof span in the world until the Astrodome opened up.  (We took this pic of me and the 'vette back in May on the Hotel's beautiful grounds and submitted to Lightstream Financial who did the financing for the car - I just pulled it off of their Facebook page, hence the text.)  There's also the scenic train ride that among other things goes past the house that Larry Bird grew up in, and there's a killer indoor go-kart track in French Lick, although saying these things are go-karts is about like saying a ZR1 is a sports car!

Modding started a little early, on Friday during our trip down from Canada Ava's front brakes started to squeal. Enoniam was kind enough to give me a "test flight" in the Vette to the "local" Autozone.
Local store there is about a half hour ride, but somehow it didn't take us that long!!!!
I'm hoping the new Duralast Gold Cmax Ceramic pads last longer than 20-25k miles I was getting from the last 2 sets of EBC GreenStuff 7000 I was using.

Saturday morning we did some wiring of cntrysngr72's running board led strips, so they light up white with dome lights and amber with the corresponding turn signal. Enoniam swapped out his fog light housings for some new clear ones, and I pulled my seized autoride compressor.
That was more than enough work for one day so it was off for a little lunch, play time and sightseeing!!!

DirtyGirl found a new friend along the way...

Thanks to everyone that made this a great little GTG, we were overwhelmed by the hospitality from everyone.
Hoping this goes back on the GTG list for next year, as we had an AVesome time!!!

Glad that you enjoyed the Hoosier Hospitality! There were 2 pork chops left in the package that I made the breaded tenderloins from so for dinner tonight I did the Shake & Bake thing with them. Later we split one piece of the sugar cream pie.....stuffed again!

Great pictures!!  Glad you took some!  I totally spaced grabbing a camera, and the ones I got on my phone were few...I'll post them later.

You are always welcome to come down and visit!  And Lafsalot (Staci) said she wants to go to Canada! :D

Glad you found the long trip worthwhile.  I was going to post pics over the weekend but our home computer decided it didn't want to do the internet - I've got some troubleshooting there to do.  :E:

Wish we could have made it, but we had prior engagement Sat afternoon.
