.... I remind them that the Av has had saddlebags since Mid 2001....

I factory ordered mine in April 2001, took delivery in June and some were sold as early as February or March. Ironic the step and storage boxes are new features on some trucks after Avalanche production has ceased.

Motor Trend's 2000 review stated, "The Avalanche looks likely to draw some blood in its assault on pickup and sport/utility orthodoxy. This is a new kind of vehicle, and it may change some thinking in the marketplace. If it does, it may also change some other truckmaker's product plans."

2002-2013 Chevrolet Avalanche Timeline

"2001: Chevrolet announces the 2002 Avalanche in February 2001. Initial production goes to California, Florida, and Texas in May 2001, with the nationwide rollout in July"

We bought our 02 in 2008 used, but it had a 6/01 build date. The frame date was 6/14/01, and I'd only ever seen one Av with an earlier build than ours (5/01). I wasn't for sure how far back they'd actually went with the first production run.

I think that GM killed the Avalanche because they realized the features that it held that so many people liked, but the truck wasn't as popular as the Silverado/Sierra... Kill the Av, take the loved features and incorporate them into the Silverado/Sierra, and BAM... You've got the Av owners buying new Silverados, a boost in sales, and one less vehicle to manufacture... Next thing you know, you will see a mid gate on a Colorado...

I don't know who follows saabkyle04 on youtube, but he does in depth car reviews and makes a lot of money doing so.. He is also know as the "Driver Seat of YouTube"..

He actually owns an Avalanche, and loves it...

He was reviewing the new 2015 Colorado and came to the explanation of the integrated steps into the bumper.. He mentioned them and then gave all the credit to the first generation Avalanche. He is the only person I have personally ever heard give credit to the Avalanche for being the first to have them..

My '02 had a frame date 06/01 and build date 06/10 I think, I got it late June.

Dealers had one or two before spring 2001 but they were gone quick, if I remember right they were at 50% production in March and nearly 100% in April,... they'd have to be to supply CA/FL/TX in May. Mine was the only AV on the lot when it came in June 27

Well, they have a lot of incentive going on at Chevy dealers till the 11th of June. My driveway looks like this now.

Looks nice oscaletrains!
Is it just camera angle/lens distortion or is the Silverado lower and smaller then the AV?

No, its just a cell phone snap so it is distorted a little. The Silverado seems to be a couple inches higher in the front than the Avalanche(06) and yes, it drives like a pick up more than a Avalanche. Got the 6.2l engine in it and 8 speed transmission. I don't like the front grill on these so may have to change that but otherwise it is really nice and the closest thing to a AV you have been able to get for too long.

I already discovered that the rear end is no more waterproof than the AV, it has the same sort of drain system it looks like.

I meant to say it SEEMS a couple inches higher in the front, probably because of the hood buldge, but they sit about the same and are about the same size really.

Here is an interesting turn of events. The ONLY reason I bought this Silverado was because I could get the package that made it look so similar to my previous AV's. And seeing as how GM is probably never going to reproduce an actual Avalanche, it seemed the only alternative. But it seems that most actual Silverado owners apparently are not enamored with their truck looking like an Avalanche either.  So forum wise, I am sort of out in the cold...not REALLY an Avalanche and not REALLY a Silverado in the looks department.

Since it is the only way to get a "new" Avalanche type vehicle, I feel pretty certain that other people who either owned, own, or wanted to own, an Avalance will eventually purchase them also. Seems maybe a new "Chevrolet Silverado that looks like an Avalanche Zone 2017-???" is in order?

I guess that is why this site is a fan club and not an owner's club? You will still be welcome to visit and post. Until they start a separate section for the High Desert Silverado maybe you can start a separate thread in the other vehicle section and post more photos and ask questions or make comments in that section?
I'm sure many members would like to read your impressions on features you like and dislike in the new truck.
