What brand of LPG/GAZ/GPL?
« on: 02/07/16 03:23 AM »

Hi. Iím posting this question here as I have doubt that anyone in the USA will harm their Avalanches with LPG installation ;-)
Iím not a fan of LPG myself preferring diesel engines (even one of my bikes have diesel engine), but this thirsty beast give me no choice ;-)
What brand of LPG system are you using? Do you use additional lubrications? To protect valves and seats either Flashlube or additional to gaz injections of normal fuel can be used.
According to guys from LPG service there is no need for lubrication on the Vortec engines.
Iím interesting about yours opinion.
My plan so far is use BRC PD  (Italian) installation dedicated for 8 cylinders engines.

Thanks a lot. I did use search option but I type LPG and get 1 result from 2002 ;-)
You are definitely better with searching this forum ;-)
Yours link are fine but also not up to date. A lot of things changed for better in the propane system.
Posting this question I was hoping for answers from European owners (as Schelbi) but is look like they are not visiting this forum to often ;-(
I didnít expect that so many American owners are interesting on the gas conversion.
By the way, what is the way to send privet message here. When Iím clicking on the envelope which supposed to send mail Iím redirected to main forum page? ;-(

You are right adamer in that many members are not very active on this site and there can be many reasons such as the AV is not made anymore and some of the "new car" ownership enthusiasm goes away after a few years and even as great as the AV is it can become just a truck for everyday use and once owners get the AV the way they want they stop looking for mods to perform on their vehicle.
It can also work in the negative when a vehicle ages it has problems then members post or search the threads to find a solution to their problems. OF course if their AV is dependable and not having problems then few people post things like "I drove my AV today and nothing bad happened!"
As far as switching to natural gas or propane some members did this when gasoline prices climbed but since gas has gotten relatively cheap in the U.S. (many places below $2.00 a gallon)  it doesn't make sense to spend the money converting. You also would have to consider the inconvenience if you ran out of propane or other pressurized gas on the road with how easy would it be for someone to bring you a tank to fill up or is there a nearby station to fill up?
When gas prices climb then you will see more threads about gas economy and conversions (even diesel) but most AV owners realize they bought their 6,000 lb. truck with the aerodynamics of a brick for it's comforts and features not it's gas economy. Some members try to save gas by buying an economy vehicle or motorcycle as a daily driver and save the AV for weekends or an as needed vehicle. That has drawbacks too such as more purchase price, taxes and insurance of course.

For search I just page thru every page and check title of posts....

For PM you need more posts (SPAM PREVENTIVE THING)

Cannot tell you how many but you are not far away... this limit allows members to know you first.

I suggest starting thread in that Enging Performance section as some of those in europe do read that section and are in Holland or Netherlands area....

Type propane and you'll get many more results although some will be about BBQ grills.

I'd look up Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra LPG conversion information since they built a lot more of them.

After adding propane system I will still have fuel system. Engine start on fuel and then automatically switch to propane when is warm enough. Same happen when there is no more gas in the tank.
So thatís not an issue. I leave in Poland and as in all European country propane is less then half price of the fuel.

We had a member from Amsterdam for a few years with a 2002 Z71 that he converted to LPG/LNG, not sure which. He was still able to use the either Fuel option but, he had to seal off his Mid Gate to keep the tank fumes from invading the cabin. Very similar to the procedures we have to use here when refueling a boat with i board tanks. Too many places for fumes to hide and collect before restarting.

He ended up with SnugTop and basically had an Avalanche Pick Up Truck. He did have some kind of problem that took a period of time to resolve, but he really enjoyed that truck until he was provided a 2007 to use for a few years while he was here in the U.S. on a long term work assignment.

It appears his user name has been purged from the Club. Let me know if you'd like to get in contact with him and I'll see what I can do for you. I still touch base with him avery 6 months or so and I'm over sure to speak with him.

Cat Dancer, thanks for the post. I think that your friend have LPG tank mounted in the bed. But even then there shouldnít be any leaks.
Something was done wrong there. There shouldnít be any fumes at all.
In EU LPG conversion can be done only in authorized workshop and certified.
Also every year installation need to be inspected.
Most of LPG users decide to mount LPG tank under the car in the place of the spare tire, so there is additional precaution to not get fumes into cabin.

I leave in Poland and as in all European country propane is less then half price of the fuel.

20 lb. refill for my propane grill costs $17, gasoline is down to $1.20 gal. in Flint, MI.
We are not feeling your pain at the gas pump today  :4:

Most of Europe has few oil or natural gas resources, the import taxes help keep the price stable. It's more complicated than that, Canada jacks their price to double the USA and they have oil and gas.

My great grandpa was a draft dodger from Poland before WW I, no Tsar's Army for him. Polish immigrants and their descendants have been building cars and trucks in Michigan for over 100 years so we e are countrymen of a sort  :B:

Gas might drop below $1.00 gal. here soon, that could work in your favor since fewer people here will be buying LPG conversion kits. You could get a better price on a propane conversion while gasoline price is low.

Nor really, fuel prices  in the States don't affect much in EU. However fuel is going down here, a lot of  people decide for LPG convertion also  on the relatively small  engines so price  for convertion will not drop. Most components are made in EU,  Japan or Korea .

Hey Adamer,

sorry I've been not very active the last months. A lot of work (had to move my construction company to bigger office) and 2 Children kept my away from this site :(

My LPG system is from Tartarini and I use flashlube. I'm not sure if it is necessary but my engine made some problems after 260 000 km. A lot of people told it will not make more than 40 000km with LPG.

I had a spare engine so I just switched the engines 2 weeks ago.

Lets see how long this one will last  ???

Fuel consumtion is something around 22 liters on 100km. Sounds very much but my drive is lifted 9", has 4.56 gears and 37" mud terain tires. Expensive but makes alot f fun  :4:

Greetings from Germany.

Hi  Schelbi. Nice that you are  back   :D
As you can assume I've  got LPG already. not have  a chance to drive a lot, done around 2000 km so far.
consumption 20-25 l/100 on the BFG  AT tires.
I've use popular in Poland components probably you never heard about ;-)
Driver center  LPG-TECH 328, reduktor  KME TWIN and Baracuda 130 injectors, 90l radial tank and filling point  under fuel  filling  cover.  Finally  following  advice from a loto of LPG specialists I didnít use lubrication.
My engine is well above 270K and working fine so far.
I really enjoy drive this truck  :D But unfortunately not enough time to  drive as I'm  working 5/5 weeks rotation.
When at home I have to share time between driving Avalanche,  my camper and motorcycles ;-)
Right now car is in the workshop where  they  do frame conservation and rims refurbish.
Take care, regards  from GOM.
