The center console cover on my '07 Av became cracked and split after years of abuse from my elbow!  So, after thinking I was going to have to take it to a upholstery shop for repair, I found a better option of repairing it myself!  Here are the steps if you would like to try this yourself!

You will need:
Replacement console cover (Info on that below)
Medium sized Phillips screwdriver
Medium sized Flat head screw driver
Small and medium sized binder clips
.003 or .005 foam matting
Needle nosed pliers
Double sided tape
Strong fabric glue

First thing is the console cover.  I found mine on eBay.  Don't have the link, but if you search your year "Chevy avalanche console cover" a bunch of items will come up.  Just find the one that matches your style of console and your color.  I chose the real leather one and not the "automotive leather" option because I believe its just a vinyl cover and that's why it didn't last as long.

Here is my console with the split/hole in it.

So first is to open the console and remove the screws that hold the black "underside".

Next, remove the screws that holds the cover to the spring loaded hinge.

At this point, you can take the console cover inside to work on it.  Make sure you place a bath towel down on the surface that your working on so you don't scratch the cover.

Turn the cover over and remove the rubberized black center piece. (It just lifts right out with your fingernail)

Remove the 4 screws located in the center piece, then turn it over and remove the three screws near the latch on the underside.

Push the latch out (you may have to move the latch a little to clear the opening) and the entire piece (with the top piece) will slide out and off the console.

As you can see, the cover was secured to the console with staples.  Use the flat head screwdriver or the needle nose pliers to remove the staples.

Once that's done, remove the cover from the console.  You will see that there is a foam pad that was under the cover.  Mine had a black spot where the rip was.  When I first fit the new cover on it, I thought it wasn't snug enough, so that's why I added the foam sheet to "build up" the padding.  If this is something that you don't feel the need to do, you can skip this step.  I just cut the foam sheet to match the contour of the console, used double sided tape to stick the foam pieces to the console and placed the original foam padding over it with a little double sided tape to keep it in place.

Next, pull the new cover over the foam padding and make sure it fits to your liking.  You may have to trim a little around where the latch goes to insure that the latch will fit properly.  Make sure everything is as snug and as tight as you can get it to get a good look.  (you don't want a saggy cover!)  Here is a pic of the replacement cover.

Once you have it fitted to your liking, secure it to the console.  I tried to restaple it but that didn't work, so I used some fabric glue to glue the edges to the console.  Start at the top part first, (where that middle rubberized mat came from) make sure you have the cover where you want it, then glue the edges down. Wait for the glue to dry (because your going to be pulling on the fabric on the underside) before proceeding.  As you can see here, its glued down, but there are a few wrinkles in the cover.  Don't worry, your going to pull and smooth those out in a minute.

After the glue dries, reinstall the center piece with the latch.  Install the screws at the top and make sure that the latch fits tight and the fabric around the latch is snug as well.  Install the screws for the latch and then glue the flaps around the sides of the latch. (If you can place a small binder clip there that would help.)

Next, start pulling the edges tight and gluing them down as well.  Use the binder clips to keep them in place until the glue dries.  Occasionally turn the console over to check for ripples or loose spots.  You want the fabric as tight as you can get it all the way around!

Once dry, admire your handiwork!!  Voila!!  A new console cover!!

Place the cover back on the hinge first, reinstall the screws, then, put the black underside cover on last with the screws.  Put the black rubberized mat back in its place and there you have it!

Awesome job wrpfctr7, mine cracked a few weeks ago and I was contemplation buying one of the eBay covers also as opposed to a whole new lid.
Thanks for the write up.
