I need new tires on my 06 cladded Avy. I want something bigger, what is the Max I can go on stock 17" rims with stock suspension. and I am not entirely understanding offset

Offset is the distance the wheel mounting surface is OFFSET from Center of the wheel between the 2 beads.

I forget which way is positive.

OK this explains offset, now how dose it relate to tire size. I mean when do you use negative or positive offset.

IT has nothing to do with tire size..

What it does is either push the wheel/tire out away from hub or pulls it in or leaves it where Chevy intended.

People change the offset when tires OD and width are more than stock and when they turn the front wheel it hits something.

SO by changing the offset you can push the tire out away from the truck which may reduce the chances of the tire hitting something underneath when you turn full lock.

Or pull tire back if outside edge of tire hits fender when you turn.

I've got a good deal of offset in my 18x10 wheels pushing my 285 60 18's farther out and I've had to trim the plastic fender liner because the trailing outside of the tire his the fender line at full lock.
