Driver side window switch console replacement - Need programming?

I have a 207 Av where I need to replace the Drivers side Master window switch/console.  I bought a new console/switch, but only the driver window will roll down.  (The other windows will not.)  I read somewhere that if you get a new switch/console, you need to have it programmed to work.    Is that correct?  The new switch is not a plug and play module?  That would seem to be sort of overkill to have to program a window switch.  And if the switch has to be programmed, is that something I could do, or would I have to take it to the dealer to have that done?  Any help would be appreciated!

I have heard of programming them for different types of mirrors, but not this problem.
