Ladder racks
« on: 02/21/17 11:36 AM »

Anyone here have a ladder rack on their Avy?  I have a 2004 and the only ready-made thing I can find is just a rear stand that goes in place of the grab handles in the back.  Others say they "fit" that Avy, but I could make anything "fit".

some older threads in this section... like from back in 2002-2005 I think... one guy made a thing that mounts to where rear grab handles are to support rear of ladder with the rest on roof rack.

dig thru and look as I am sure there was about 10-15 threads on this subject from member who do not post anymore

I don't believe there is a ladder rack built to fit an Avalanche. I built a paddleboard rack for mine several years ago. I was only able to find one other guy who had built something similar.... A canoe rack in his case.

Mine is essentially a modified Thule square bar rack. I built the extended legs in the rear which is screwed in place of the handles & was shaped in a way that the cargo box doors & bed covers opened/closed without interference. Front & rear bars are padded by wrapping the bars tightly with rope.

GT80 made a nice kayak rack here....http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cafcna/index.php?topic=138433.0
Mine is stable, but I bet this one is rock solid.

Any collapsible rear bar setups. I think it would look nicer when not using to carry wood etc.  :B:
