2003 Z71, 107K miles. Got a weird metal on metal noise when I brake hard. Sounds like it's on the driver's front. Normal driving and braking there's no noise. Brakes are new and rotors are good. Bearing, maybe? Are they the same as non-4wd bearings in front?
Thanks!

No usually the 2wd ones have a cap to cover the opening

Yeah, checked brakes all the way around and they are good. still leaning toward the front bearing going bad....any luck with 1A auto parts? ???

You have to get the front wheels off the ground and spin them to listen for noise. Also grab the wheel at 9 and 3 o'clock and rock it back and forth to see if there is any movement.. If so it's the wheel bearing..

And don't by the cheap ones or you'll regret it, try to get ones with Timken bearings...

Good luck

Check thickness of pads... Might be boarder lined thin and only hearing the metal on metal sound during hard braking.

Best option is to pull off the wheel and start looking. Could be as easy as a broken link on the sway bar allowing it to contact something else when braking hard causes the truck to node down slightly.

just following up on my issue here...replaced both front wheel bearing assemblies with parts from 1A Auto. good prices! fixed the issue. only 107K on the original bearings, but they were worn. good to go!
