Heater hose removal?

I want to flush out my heater core. One of the heater core lines came off easy with a hose clamp. The other doesn?t have a standard has clamp like the other side but a plastic type connector with no obvious way to remove the hose. How do I disconnect the heater hose from the firewall?

It's probably a quick disconnect fitting

I don't see mention of what year truck you have but my '03 they certainly are quick disconnect just like the fuel lines except they don't have the additional lock the fuel lines have. I pulled mine off and replaced them this summer. The one you had a hose clamp on has already been replaced as that is how some of the replacements come.

Mine, one came with the plastic piece molded to it, the other I had to use the hose clamp on. I bought a new plastic clamp for mine though as they get brittle with age so if you are replacing the lines pull off the other plastic piece and replace it as well...

I have a 2003. How do I get the hose off of the outlet. Is there a special tool I need?

Check out the video I posted. It's a quick disconnect tool. Good luck getting it out without breaking it, but the parts are pretty cheap

Yes it is a special tool. I suggest twisting the hose back and forth before inserting the tool. Mine were the original hoses and came right out once I twisted them.

Most auto part stores have them. I bought some cheap plastic ones and they worked great.

Basically there are two(Maybe more?) tabs that hold the plastic fitting onto the pipe. Your inserting a tool to push those back so you can pull it off... I had difficulty inserting my tool into the quick connect fitting until I twisted the hose. (Think of how you remove a spark plug wire... Same idea) Mine were somewhat bonded to the metal until I twisted.

Works the same as a quick release on a fuel line and uses same tool. Just different diameter.
