Avalanche - EXT sail mod question.

Hi so this is my question.

I have a 2013 EXT and I am trying to install the Snugtop shell made for the Avy on it.

I know that I need to change out the sails, 3rd brake light and the side storage box lid. What I am unsure if that if the Storage Box lid from an Avy will fit on the EXT storage box without having to replace the whole top metal shelf where the storage box lid screws onto.

I am hoping that GM used the same parts for the "Bed Shelf"  (not sure what to call it) and only change out the top parts (sails and tool box lid) for the EXT.

Can you guys please help me figure this out?

Thanks and happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!!

I know there is a large amount of threads about swapping out the cladding going from textured to smooth but not many on going the reverse way....
From what I have read over the years you should be able to change out the side bin lids and no need to change lower parts, but you may need to change out trim on tailgate including tailgate handle surround too to get all the parts to line up with a correct gap.
You haven't mentioned which AV generation the Snugtop was made for but there is a difference in rear glass between the two generations and you may have to modify glass on Snugtop if it's first generation to fit your 2013 EXT.
Personally I wouldn't go to all the expense and effort to convert an EXT to a stock textured AV with a Snugtop, I would just get a Suburban or Escalade if I wanted to stay in the Cadillac family. I know some people love theirs and say they can take it off anytime they wanted but then you have to find a friend to help with removal or install every time or rig up some pulley storage system to handle the removal and storage when not in use. That would make me not want to remove it very often so in turn if I left it on all the time I might as well own a Suburban.
But to each his own and it's one reason the AV/ EXT is so versatile it can be configured to meet anyone's needs. Good luck with your mod!

Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I am looking at buying the top pieces off of a 2004 Avy, they are a bit old but since they will be covered I don't really mind.

The Snugtop I have was off of a second gen Avy so the tailgate spoiler should not be an issue.

Before getting my EXT I spent a lot of time looking at other options including used and new ESV's with all the new electronic toys. What I found was that the flexibility of having two split level of storage ( snugtop installed with the bed panels ) could not be found anywhere else.

The other option I was toying with was to bolt on some brackets and install a Thule roof top box on top of the cargo panels. I might still go that route.

Thanks again for your reply.

Wanting to go from smooth to black eh? What color???

I'd like to go from black to smooth......if you've got red maybe we could whip up a trade of sorts.

While I can't help you with the change from EXT to Avy, I can tell you I have a Snug Top and love it.  Like you mention, the double decker storage is great for camping trips plus I can pop out the back glass which gives the kids easy access to snacks and pillows while giving them room in the back seat.  It only takes me with the help of my wife and daughters maybe 15 - 30 minutes to take it off or put it on.

What I think you are asking is does the storage box lid fit between the Av and EXT.
So yes replace all parts. I would like it see the completed project.

Bonus is you can sell the ext parts for about 1,000 bucks.

I have a Mid-Night Green metallic so it wont work for you.

I want to keep my EXT parts for if and when I change my mind and move back to stock....who knows    ;)

Your photos with the campiong gear looks like my 05 Avy when I got it all packed up for a river fishing trip.   :)

Sometimes if I end up doing night fishing I will empty out one side of the cargo bed so I can sleep in it, no need to deal with tents!

Sucks that they killed the Avy, such a functional design.

I was wondering about the interchangeability of the storage box.

Specifically, will the storage lid from a Avy fit on an EXT.

Sounds like you guys are saying they are interchangeable which will save me a lot of headache having to buy more parts.

My 07 has all the original textured black panels sanded smooth and painted body color. Not sure where you are located, but swapping the non-EXT for your EXT style +$cash on my end might be an option. Obviously we would both have to have our plastics repainted then.....

Sorry for the late reply, I have decided to keep my EXT the way it is and just find other options for my camping stuff.

Thanks for the offer.

Merry Christmas
