Why not just relocate the trailer plug to the bumper.

Why not just relocate the trailer plug to the bumper.

What he said. If you look at the pics MS03 posted above. You can see on the left of his license plate
cover is his trailer plug. I did this on my 03 and will be soon on the 04.  This puts the plug out of
harms way and it's clean and simple mod.

ha, there's always another way to skin a cat, had my oldest daughter turning wrenches with me and we got it chopped and welded and we're happy happy happy

I have resized my photos about 6 times and this site wont accept them, I absolutely hate that feature of this forum and give up so you'll just have to imagine how clean this came out, absolutely professional

I put the trailer plug next to the receiver on mine, your choice on where you want to put it, just showing there are other options.. I did the same mod years ago and put it up on the bumper next to the license plate on my 91 GMC and twice while loading the bed with the tailgate up I had someone step on the jack and F it up.. So I prefer it mounted under the bumper but not hanging down.

As far as resizing, I use Paint.. Make a copy then open it with paint jpg., go to resize, put 25 in the b ox with percentage checked, the second box will automatically populate, close and check the properties to see the new size. Just do this a few times until it's under 100KB. The bigger the picture the lower the number, you just have to play with it until it's small enough..

towed the toy hauler today with confidence I've never had before, in hindsight I did put the harness mount a little too close to the ring for the tongue chain but turns out my hooks are too small to fit around the ring's metal, I'll look for larger hooks or just add my shackles for the winch to the hitch so the hooks can attach there, that's basically what those shackles are for anyway

Looks good, I'm sure it feels better towing without that flexible flyer stock POS.

Whenever anyone PMs me about  2500 they are thinking about buying the first thing I tell them is replace the hitch or this may happen.

I now believe the factory hitch was likely bent, and since it was attached to the bumper it pulled down on that, now that the new hitch is installed, the square receiver sits higher, where it is supposed to, and the bumper does not appear to sag as much, so I believe I did NOT bend my frame which is fantastic

here is a silly thing I had my youngest daughter help me with to drill the (4) 1/2" holes in the frame, she slid the floor jack under my drill and slowly (like minuscule movement) worked the jack to push the drill in to the frame, essentially creating an inverted drill press, went fast and smooth, again, I'm a fabricator, used proper cutting oil and HSS bit to knock those holes out
