After trading in my 2002 Avy to purchase my 2013 I was surprised to see no cabin air filter. With a little research and a look behind the kick plate, well underneath actually I noticed a place for the filter which even included the notch for the cover and even a place for the screw. Very weird they added all this but opted not to add a filter.

Well with the Dorman kit it made it easy to do this mod, but I have since found that gm also had the parts to do the same thing, just a little more expensive.

It took me about an hour, I was in no rush and its a little cramped where you need to cut.

I've added some pics.

And is this specific to Gen 2 trucks or will it also work on Gen 1 trucks?

Called this for 07 up. Said they did not have one to fit first gen. Good price.

I really really wish my 04 had this option, or a filter at all for that matter.
I used the Dorman kit to install the filter on my 04 1500. A real chore- I used a utility knife blade held in a small ViceGrip heated with propane torch and worked slowly- but got the cover installed. The filter is apparently the same size as a Mk IV VW Bug, so I will try that next time- the Dorman part is stupid-expensive 😡

Update: based on a YouTube video, ProSelect Part No. 224805 filter kit will work. NAPA sells it as Part No. NSF 224805 for CDN$15. I installed the kit, and it fit fine (it includes two separate filters, so no issue about bending a filter in half like the Dorman part). Made in China, though, so I’ll be looking for a Mann USA/Bosch/other filter when I change these ones out. Never, ever 🇨🇳 if there is an alternative part.

I also did this on my 04 avy and 08 escalade. The 07+ have a stamp to cut out. The 04 did not, so plastic was much thicker and I used a dremel.
