I got a stuck lifter, the folks at the auto parts store and repair shops all ask "you got a 5.3? yeah that's common..." well it was common in small blocks too. I used Bearing and Gear (BG) oil system cleaner following the instructions to the letter, The lifter now quiets down about 10 minutes after the engine reaches operating temperature. The lifter is quiet until the engine warms up then it's clack, clack, clack. Any help you guys could give wuld be much appreciated!

Not necessarily a lifter.
Drop the pan and replace the oil pick up tube o ring

Mine had the same symptoms

Mileage?

SO it makes a noise when cold on start up that sounds like lifter ticking?
Goes away after engine warms up a bit...

search PISTON SLAP might be your issue.

How hard is that to do? Do i have to lift up the motor? 150K plus miles.

No no noise on cold start, clack starts as engine warms up then it goes away after about 10 minutes at full operating temp. This tells me some gunk finally gets warm enough to soften and allow the lifter to operate... I don't think it's piston slap, mileage is 150K plus.

check for broken exhaust manifold bolts/studs.
