Hello to everyone who helped discuss the possibility of a National Get Together in 2004. I have had a wonderful experience chatting and PMing with you all. You are wonderful people who are really trying to move us to a higher level. Thanks for your input.

At this time the prospect of a National meet in 2004 is poor. In my opinion, it won't happen. The most popular idea for now is that there should be two large regional events next Summer, one on the Eastern side of the country and one on the Western side. Bigger for sure than local get togethers or state get togethers, I call them SuperRegionals.

The logic behind this idea is obvious and, in my opinion anyway, correct. Close is good. Believe me it disappoints me to say it, but as I said before: When the handwriting is on the wall, it's time to move on.

There is a very large event now being planned for next June on the East side: GRANDSTRAND. It drew tons of enthusiastic responses as soon as the notice was posted, and sadly the National idea did not. If you haven't been keeping up with it, here's the link

Experienced people are putting it together and it will be successful and fun. The location in South Carolina is central to the whole East Coast, and it sounds like a winner to me. I wish them great luck and I'll be there myself.

So that takes care of the East Coast, but what about the Fun Coast? Well, now that the driving time from the East isn't a concern, you have a little more flexibility. Colorado Springs is still a terrific place. Since I researched it a little, I'm now going to take my family there for a vacation. But I'm gonna fly!! ;D

Las Vegas, to me anyway, is Party Town! You couldn't go wrong there. Family friendly, and the best entertainment in the country. Sorry, Branson, that I had to be the one to tell you! Vegas has all sorts of convention bureau people to help plan it, if that's what you want. People from the East Coast might fly out just to meet you and play in the casinos. A lot of us go there for fun anyway.

Someone from the West is now going to have to pick up the ball.

If there isn't a West Coast counterpart to GRANDSTRAND, there is a smaller event (the one that started my mind whirling in the first place), the Southern Regional. I don't know how that's going, but the coordinator is Dave02Z66. He has some good spots in mind, and if you can't get something bigger going and you live in the Texas/Colorado region, you might want to contact him and see what's up there.

So, that's it I guess. Maybe in 2005...

Las Vegas in the middle of summer....hmmmmmmmmmmm....

We've found the middle of October to be ideal for going to Vegas . . . before the time changeover. We're mostly outdoor types, so we especially need to go there during more temperate weather. Didn't make it out this year though. :6:

Additionally, it looks like the joint US/Canada Spring GTG 2004 in Niagra Falls is gaining momentum for those northerners.

The onus is still for something exciting on the Left Coast, but geez, we're talking 8 months 'til next summer! I applaud all of you who are planning this stuff now!

Glad to here that AvKing's posted sage advice seems to have prevailed. (regional meets rather than national),
to which I agree.

California's AvKing, SoCalCindy, wind4power, and others will be back to CA tomorrow from the Wild West II cruise, and all of us will hash out suggestions for a western usa "SuperRegional" meet.

Hmmmmm start in Vegas cruise north over a couple days while taking in some ghost towns and state parks and ending in Reno for hot august nights car show

Have you ever done this trip? I did it about 5 years ago.... It was one of the most boring road trips I have ever done... There really is nothing once you get past Parumph (sp?) until you get to Reno.

Now a GTG in either Reno or Tahoe may work >:D
