Multiple vehicles controlled by 1 key fob

I have a 2003 Corvette and will very soon have a 2004 Av. Can multiple GM vehicles be controlled by one key fob? Are there "multi-vehicle" fobs out there, either by GM or aftermarket? It would make for a smaller keychain to have to carry in my pocket.

Anybody know?

Thanks,

Paul

The KeyFOB is a dumb transmitter of a rolling code. The smarts are in the vehicle. Most of the GM cars will work with other GM KeyFOB's, however, you may not have all the same buttons. Also, there are different series of FOB's, but usually similar years will work. Somewhere on the board is the procedure for reprogramming a car to accept a particular FOB.

We've had several different GM vehicles and had at least the lock and unlock doors button work on them.

Bottom line is you just have to try it.

Cheers and happy holidays,
Mike

if you get it to work, just remember, you unlock both vehicles at the same time, don't forget to relock the one you're not driving, if it's nearby

I worked at a ford dealership for a few months and I noticed that a few trucks would respond w/ one control, co I'm pretty sure that GM opperates the same

Another Vette / Av garage combo (y)

An interesting concept...I'm not sure if I would like having both vehicles beeping & flashing in the garage though.

The fobs are similar but have enough differences to tell them apart. The Av is thinner and only has 3 buttons where the C5 is thicker with 4 buttons (for the hatch, atleast on the coupe). The C5 key is longer and has a chip in it so no mistaking it.

I keep the C5 keys on a small rope climber type clip and the Av on a larger type clip.

Id like to have both my avs open with 1 remote, i hate having to a pocket full of keys, whenever i need both avs unlocked.

After 9 years see if I can restart this thread.

I recently acquired a 2004 Avalanche which pairs with the 2004 Avalanche I already have.  His and Her's Avalanches, same year.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever programmed the same key fob for both vehicles.
I've been told that with the double side keys, which I have, that the vehicle only uses one side.  So each side could be keyed for a different vehicle.  One key could work 2 trucks, as long as you remember which side is up.

Anyone ever verified that either of these things, fob or key, will work?

I can't help you with the fob issue.

But I have a 1993 Ford Explorer that I had to replace the ignition key lock when the old one wore out.

That left me with two big old Ford keys on my keyring, one for the ignition and the other for the front doors and lift gate.

I found an old hardware store that cut the ignition key pattern on one side and the door key pattern on the other.

I confirmed the key worked as planned and then I had new keys cut for each family member.

I got the idea from a buddy that had the patterns from two different Fords cut onto one key.

Works great on those types of keys with no anti-theft devices built into the key.

I don't think that will work using the same keys you will trip the Pass II security system, then you have a big bill from the dealership. I see no reason the fob can not work on both AVs

I programmed the key fob from Avy #1 to also work Avy #2.  No problem there.  I now can operate both Avalanches with the same key fob.

Now I just have to get a key made with each side cut different.  The locksmith I use is closed today (Saturday), so I'll do that next week.

If anyone needs key fob programming instructions check out this site.

I went this morning to a locksmith and, despite the insistence of the locksmith that it won't work, I had a key made with each side cut to match a different Avalanche.  It works fine.  I just need to mark the key so that I know which side goes up for which truck.

I now have one keyring with a single truck key & fob that works both Avalanches.  No more "Shoot, I picked up the wrong set of keys".
