VIN -- Vehicle Number Identification
« on: April 28, 2004, 08:25:49 AM »

Does anyone know how to break down what the VIN numbers mean?  I've searched this site and so far haven't found anything.  Can anyone help me with this, please.

I just purchased my first Avalanche (2004 Z71) and would really like to know how to get either a copy of an original window sticker or some other way to get the list of options my truck came with from the factor.  For example, what all do I get with the Z71?  Thanks for any help and I'm so excited to join the "club"!!!

Start by looking at the SPID label in the glovebox and find the RPO code listing here for your year.

www.windowsticker.com or windowstickers.com, something like that, can get you the window sticker.

Take your VIN to a dealer part's counter and ask for a SPID report which will provide all the info you want.

Looks like an old topic.... but here is an update as that site isn't very accurate or up to date.

Horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.#7

Here is a thread listing most all of the RPO codes, you will find in your glove box.  That list will show every thing that came from the factory.
