I'm replacing the fuel filter on a 2002 Avalanche.

Is their anything special that I need to do before starting the job, or can I just remove the filter and replace?

Thanks - Frank

PS welcome to the club.....

Very easy to do...I forget the wrench size, but you will see how easy it was after you finish doing it.

Thanks!

The job took me about 30 minutes.? ;D

I did notice that if you happen to get some gas on the undercoating it tends to wipe away. So be careful.? ?:E:

The fuel filter is easy to change.  Sometimes it helps to remove the gas cap.  This will relieve some of the pressure in the tank if there is any.

ok heres the deal
just changed mine about a 30 min process level 1 job

tools required
16mm,& 20 mm, open end wrenches (2) for line fittings
(1) 15 mm socket and a ratchet with a long exstention. for bracket bolts
drip pan ,1 rag, safety glasses !!!
replacment fuel filter
**? (I used a Deutsch #FF504) the AC delco I took off semed to heve a bent input probobly to make line install a bit easyer but the new one was no problem

set emergincy brake
losen the gas cap to relieve pressure
went undr the hood relieve pressure at nedele valve? on driver side, under vortec cover no need to remove cover, its out in the open
(yellow cap) see links above for more info.

under truck
clean fittings to remove gunk or contaminants, mine was clean :)
losen both fittings while still in bracket? drain about a 1/4 (cup no high pressure spry noted)
lossen bracket and remove lines & filter. check O rings on lines
drain fuel from old filter remove from bracket. insert new filter in bracket (check flow direction is correct)
install lines back on (do not cross thread!! it takes some work to get them on correct) install bracket bolts (2) one of those is a PITA
tighten line fittings
intall gas cap back on turn on ignition to accesssory only for two seconds then turn ignition back off (check for leaks) !!!!!!!!!!!
turn on engine let idle
to feel good about saving 50 some odd bucks

real easy job
it took me longer to write this than it did to change the filter
