  2. Remove the battery.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the battery with the (+) positive side down.
  2. Close the transmitter case and perform the following steps:
        1. Align the top and bottom covers.
        2. Press together the top and the bottom covers.
        3. Inspect the operation of the transmitter.

Transmitter Synchronization

    ■ Resynchronization may be necessary due to the security method used by the remote keyless entry system. The transmitter does not send the same signal twice to the passenger door module (PDM).
    ■ The PDM will not respond to a signal that has been sent previously. This prevents anyone from recording and playing back the signal from the transmitter.
    ■ The panic button should still operate normally when the system is out of synchronization.
    ■ Resynchronization may be necessary under the following conditions:
∙ The battery in the transmitter is very weak.
∙ The battery in the transmitter was replaced.
∙ The battery in the vehicle has been in a low or no charge condition for an extended period of time.
    ■ In order to resynchronize the transmitter with the PDM, perform the following steps:
        1. Stand within 1.5 meters (5 ft) from the vehicle.
        2. Simultaneously press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter for 7 seconds.
The door locks should cycle in order to confirm resynchronization.

Transmitter Programming

Important

Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.

There are 3 methods for programming transmitters, which are listed below as methods 1-3. Up to 4 transmitters may be programmed to the passenger door module (PDM). Each programmed transmitter is given a position of #1-#4 in the PDM memory.

Method 1 - No Tools Required, Program All Transmitters

Important

All transmitters which are to be recognized by the PDM must be programmed in a single programming sequence. When using this program method, all previously programmed transmitters will be erased upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter.

The order in which the transmitters are programmed will determine its numbering position within the PDM memory. The first transmitter programmed will be transmitter #1, and the second transmitter programmed will be transmitter #2. The number stamped on the transmitter case is for reference only; #2 can be programmed as #1, or vice versa. Additional unnumbered transmitters are also available.

  1. Close all the vehicle doors.
  2. Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
  3. Press and hold the door unlock switch.
  4. While holding the door lock switch in the unlock position, cycle the ignition ON, OFF, ON, OFF.
  5. Release the door unlock switch. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm the program mode.
  6. Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously on one transmitter. After a delay of approximately 15 seconds, the doors will lock and unlock to confirm the programming of that transmitter.
  7. Repeat the previous step to program up to 4 transmitters.
  8. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position in order to exit the keyless entry transmitter programming mode.
  9. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Method 2 - Scan Tool Required, Program Individual Transmitter

Only use this option if you are certain which transmitter, #1-#4, is being replaced, or the new transmitter can be programmed into a previously unused position within the PDM memory.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. Use the scan tool in order to access the passenger door module Special Function menu.
  4. Select Program Individual Key Fob to program specific transmitters.
  5. Follow the directions on the scan tool in order to program the transmitter or transmitters.
  6. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

Method 3 - Scan Tool Required, Program All Transmitters

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. Use the scan tool in order to access the passenger door module Special Function menu.
  4. Select Program All Key Fobs to clear the PDM memory.
  5. Follow the directions on the scan tool in order to program the transmitters.
  6. Operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.

I haven't been able to obtain any results like the following, with my 03 system using this method.
Perhaps later year Av's?

I currently have no access to the following file for the details:

"You can use the information in SI document 1460262 to verify the keyless entry system key fob (passive)".

Perhaps in the document there is the explanation!

Please PM me if you have relevant info. :) SPerry

For keyless entry system key fob (passive).

System Operation Overview:

It is not necessary to press a button on the passive fob to unlock the door. The fob simply has to be within one meter of the antenna in the vehicle. (Passenger side)

In normal operation, when a door or compartment handle is operated, the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) in the vehicle transmits a ?challenge? to the key fob.

If the challenge is met, the key fob will respond to the RCDLR, allowing the door to be unlocked and opened.

-------------------

Using the Tester

Place the key fob on the J 43241 test pad. Then approach the vehicle and attempt to open each door and rear compartment. The tester should beep during each entry attempt.

The beep indicates that the fob in question is the correct one for the vehicle being tested, and that the fob and vehicle are capable of communicating with each other.

Miscellaneous information:

Key FOB Part numbers (GMT800)

FOB with #1 on the back :  #15186200
FOB with #2 on the back :  #15186201
FOB with no # on the back: #21997127

You can have up to four FOB's.

-------------------------------------------------------

With adding a third FOB, the truck will mostly assume FOB#1 settings using FOB #3, however some can be different - somewhat.

You can have a third set of radio presets in an INR nav unit, however the labeling you set will carry to FOB #1.

Setting the radio preset memory labeling back with FOB #1:

If you had set up presets for FOB # 3, then the labeling only will follow it back to FOB #1.

Set the driver preference #1 and select the intended preset position on the radio, note the station selection you originally had for FOB # 1 is back, however the labeling are the ones you had with FOB #3! Unless it's the same station, just press & hold, as you would to save the preset as usual. The labeling will change back.

This will not restore for FOB # 3's selection when it's used. Only the station settings. If you do a save for each FOB # 3 preset, FOB #1's labeling will change again. Whew!
