My DSM SHAKE started WAY after I'd installed the shields. about 14kmiles later. Driving along at 80mph and  veryveryangry ! The dealer was denying me, until I noticed that the mirror shakes even when being adjusted diaganolly (sp?).  Then he saw it and asked me to come back next week when he had more time...  I'll keep ya'll posted.

I'm going to place a bet that they find that the mirror glass is coming loose from the rest of the mechanism. The fix may be as simple as a new piece of glass, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they replace the whole mirror.

If they replace the glass PLEASE ask if you can watch AND take pictures/notes. Would love to get back there and glue a few pieces solid to each other.

:)I am a new owner and member to the club. I have a new 2003 Avalanche that has a vibration in the mirror glass on the driverside exterior mirror. It is the mirror that is powered, retracts and has the signal light in it. On the highway, it creates a fuzzy image. Any Ideas? Huh

Welcome to the club....

Try a search in this section...Q&A... (I moved your post here)

many have this problem...some have it due to bug shield on front....

Others say it is due to loose mirro glass....

but it has been discussed many times.....

I only got mirror shake after installing the bug shield and it's a noticeable shake in both mirrors at speeds above 65 mph (or 50 mph on a windy day).

Any fixes for this?  It's annoying at night time when you get shaky reflections of headlights.

03 av no mods yet and I've noticed a slight vibration with the drivers side mirror.  I glanced over to the passenger mirror and that one looks fine.  Planning to put vent shades and Lund bugshield on this weekend.  We'll see what happens.  I'll be sure to make sure the dealer records the fact that I see vibration w/o the shields so they can't say that they are the culprits.

Make sure you do the "tape mod" on your windshield trim when you install that shield.  It's easy - also DON'T USE A SEALANT!  If you do versus tape and your winshield ever needs replacing then you'll have to get new windshield trim to boot.

The mirror shake is caused by the change in air flow by the bug shield.  The Lund does it also (I have a Lund - bought my bug shield in Jan '02 after I got my Av).

However if you do any amount of highway driving I highly recommend the bug shield to keep your hood chip free (unless a rake head comes crashing over your bug shield when your going 65 MPH in the HOV lane and it whacks your hood Roll Eyes )

I brought the av in today to have my LH mirror looked at and they are ordering me a new one.  We'll see if that solves the problem.

Something for thought...
When I was home for lunch I pulled into the garage and the headlights came on, well this triggers the electrochromatic mirrors to kick in.  When I looked in the mirror and tried to focus on objects in the mirror they were all fuzzy (and I didn't have a liquid lunch Grin).  I shut the headlights off and let the mirror return to its normal state and everything looked clear.  I was wondering if the "vibration" everyone notices has something to do with the electrochomatic feature seeing as it's the driver's side that seems to be the one giving us the problem and that's the only outside mirror that dims.  (It's wierd though that the interior rear view mirror doesn't cause the same distortion.)

I thought the side mirror only dimmed when a car came from behind and hits the light sensor in the rearview mirror?

Any hoots it should not be blurry...maybe darker but not blurry...

Good luck

I also thought the mirror dimmed when it saw headlights from behind.  Perhaps it was bright enough outside to trigger them to activate (the sun was out in full force).  But like you said, it shouldn't be blurry, just darker.

I'd like others to experiment with this and see what they come up with.

Well, my new mirror assembly has come in and I got it installed.
The outside of the metal skin, which matches the velicle colour was damage when the mechanic removed the mirror assembly.
I have to go back when the new one get's painted.
I hope it matches.
Meanwhile I tried driving my AV and found that the vibration is 99% gone, but I am very fussy.

I got my new mirror assembly put on Friday (17th) and it still vibrates.  I don't know if I'll just live with it or bring it in again.

Note I do have the bug shield and vent shades installed now too.

I too have bug shield, but no vent shade.
When talking to my dealer, he said that this is a common problem, GENERAL MOTORS CANADA figure it could be a problem with vibrations in the drivetrain.

As I said before my vibration is 99% gone, now.

Don't give up ,go back to dealer and tell me your not satified.

Good luck.
