Can anyone tell me if there is anything aside from the switch on the dash that
would prevdent the steps from operating. I just took delivery this evening and
the steps do not work.I checked the underhood fuse position, thinking that they
may remove this for transport, fuse is intact. Any ideas?

There is a intialization(sp) procedure that the dealer must do on the pdi to get the steps to operate....i will see what i can dig up....

I have had a few of these come back to the dealer( i am a gm tech) and have found that some of the guys didn't know about the running boards and how to set them up.  hopefully this will fix yours.......

Subject: Information on Initializing/Activation Articulating Running Boards #06-08-61-005 - (08/22/2006)

Models: 2007 Cadillac Escalade Models

2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, Suburban, Tahoe

2007 GMC Yukon Models

with Articulating Running Boards (RPO BRS)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A new RPO option (BRS) is now available for articulating running boards. Trucks built with the articulating running board option will have the running boards locked in the shipping mode position. The shipping mode position locks the running boards in the retractable position to prevent damage to running boards during delivery. When your dealership takes delivery of these trucks, the running boards need to be unlocked and activated.

Initializing Articulating Running Boards
To activate and unlock the articulating running boards for normal operation, perform the following procedures:

Open all front and rear doors.
Set the parking brake.
Find the running board disable switch located on the center console below the HVAC climate control system.
Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position, with the engine off, and toggle the disable switch three times within 20 seconds to activate the power running boards.
Close all doors.
Open the left front or left rear door and the running board on the left side should articulate out.
Close the left front or left rear door and the running board should articulate in.
Open right front or right rear door and the running board on the right should articulate out.
Close the right front or right rear door and the running board should articulate in.
The articulating running boards will now operate when opening either the front or rear doors on that side of the vehicle. A power retract operation of the running boards will occur with the closing of both doors on that side of the vehicle.

Wow, now that is service. I performed the fix and the fix is GOOD

Now, can you help a brother out with these payments?? :needhug:

Thanks again, awesome site for an awesome truck!

Now that I actually have the beast I will get the pics and post this weekend.

I have had it for just a few hours and am loving it already, I have to fly

out of town tomorrow and do not relish the thought of leaving her at

the airport.

That's some great info kgt!  Again proving that this is the BEST site for info on these trucks.

Know of any tricks to have the steps temporarily remain in "down" position with the doors closed?  It's a bit of a PITA to wash the grime off the steps with the doors open. :)

That dont say much for the dealer's satisfaction survey their gonna send you.? Sounds like they skipped thru or didn't know the vehicle when going over "Delivery Inspection" with you!

I'd go back to the dealer and have them do it for stupidity and get a detail or tank of gas out of them.? (dont hurt to try)

They failed to do a quality delivery make them work for the survey!

Thank-you, i enjoy helping out when i have time!!!

I would let the dealer know about there mistake, none of us are perfect, but 2 departments missed this, the pdi guy doing the pdi, and the salesman who is supposed to go over the truck with you when you picked it up......now remember that most of us dealer guys and gals do try and do a good job...

Nomo....

I know of no tricks to keep them down once the doors are closed, I asked that at a training class and was told there was no way. And try to refain from pulling fuses, that will cause many dtc's to be set and could cause a whole new set of problems...sorry.

Your welcome!!
I have never heard of a way to get them back into shipping mode, i think its a one time deal. if i hear of any way i will post back here...

Thanks kgt- I'd never go so far as to start pulling fuses as that just seems like a really bad idea. :)

As far as getting them back in "shipping mode", you can disable the power steps.  When disabled, they will stay in the retracted position until re-enabled.  I haven't tested this through an ignition cycle, but it's easy to disable them again... I think you just push a button under the climate controls.

Tested the power step disable tonight...

The far-right button on the bottom row of switches will disable the power steps- keeping them in the "folded" position.  The button seems to be an actual mechanical switch (vs an electronic one) which stays in the desired position until pushed again.  Thus, the steps stay disabled through any ignition cycle and would act similar to the "shipping mode".

At least this is how my 'burb is configured. :)
