02'-06' Avalanche Owners....How's YOUR Gas Mileage?

476 miles on the last tank. 100 or so was in town, and about 120 was on secondary roads.  Low fuel light has been on for the last 15+/- miles.  Havent filled up to check mileage yet though. 

Hope you carry a gas can in the cargo bed

I've got an '04 Z66, and all I know is getting 15 mpg or so around town in a loaded Av is a heck of a lot better than driving a f@*%ing '05 Dodge Dakota with a 4. 7 and getting 11 mpg.   I trailered a '71 Charger from Chicago to DesMoines at 75 mph and still got 15. 5 mpg.

I'm getting 16.9 on my DIC - but my last pen to paper came out 15.9.
Hard to tell since I sit at an angle  at the gas pump I usually use.
BTW - mileage went up .5 since cleaning MAF.

JUst took a trip to atl from atlanta from south carolina.  GOing down there, I was getting about 15.6.   The trip back I was getting 17.2, and was driving about 75 the whole way back.

went 359 miles on 22.971 gallons of gas =15.6mpg. Thats with it being much colder here in cali and putting more air in the tires to compensate. Not too bad since i usually get 14. Traffic really burns that gas up as this example shows since i did not hit as much traffic as i usually do.

    You people still irk me!

On a good round trip down the 401 and I-94 to Jackson, I can only garner about 14mpg.  The in-town average is 10.5 mpg.  What am I doing wrong???

Geee, I don't know. I got around 16 city and 19 highway with my 2wd '03.

During our recent trip in the ol'e 03 4x4 to the Va Toys for Tots run my Hwy milage was just under 15.5 miles per gallon. 110,000 miles on the truck now. The engine is in stock form. I'm running the Super Chip's Maxx programmer on the performance setting. I use only 93 octane. K & N drop in filter. My tire size is 315 75r16's. Factory differental 3:73 gearing. Not sure what the final ratio is with the over sized BFG's. Hwy speeds averaged 80 mph during the trip. The AV is thristy with my set up but I never expected any different.

And if it was a Ridgeline, you wouldn't be doing much better than that anyway.

   Don't misunderstand, I love my Avy and wouldn't trade it for the world!

I'm just trying to figure out how some of y'all are getting such amazing gas mileage!  Ah well.. new plugs going in after Christmas... we'll see if lighter shoes on my feet will help

djhype7 there are a lot of things that effect MPG's, Type of gas and additives. Do you use a Top Tier Gas? What size rear end do you have? 410,373,etc... Miles on your vehicle, Heavy on the pedal, jack rabbit starts. Do you use the cruise control on the highway? That helps. The weather, temperature, terrain. If you drive in a mountainous area you will get less MPG's. I think you need to get those lighter shoes you mentioned earlier

Thanks Moose... 3.73 gears, 87 octane (cheap stuff from discount stations), uhhh 119,000 km don't know in miles, HEAVY on the pedal, on it like a jack rabbit... fairly level terrain, use cruise when I can but not that often... typical Ontario/Michigan weather.... and if one more person PM's me about a Honda I'm going to go ballistic!   

I guess I just have to accept the fact that I Love My Avy Power, and the neato resonance the CAI makes.  Now I just need to get the FM-40 duals on and the new plugs, not to mention the new brakes all around.

14.5 city 17 hiway. is about all i  get. I wish it was better, But for a suv weighting in @5,700lbs not too bad.

It sux...  My city miles is 13.   yours is the 1500 correct?   Heavy on the gas makes a diff.    I love power too, but hate wasting gas too.    HArd to do with my intake.   Hammering on it all the time I hit 11's.    How fast are you going on the 401 and I94?  My 17 mpg is only on interstate at 75mph/120km

Ah well, wouldn't change vehicles for the world!  I'm truly sorry I waited so long to get this truck!

Have you ever cleaned off your MAF sensor?   I got 3 mpg out of it on the hwy

What did you use to clean your MAF with?  Might have to give it a try...

I have an 02 AV 2500 with the 8. 1 liter engine. . .  My gas mileage sucks loudly and long.

In recent weeks I've noticed my mileage has been going down.  Right now I'm chalking it up to getting cold outside.  With the change in weather, I'm sure it's using more fuel.  Not to mention using the power more frequently with all that cold air adding horsepower. 

I was at an avg. 15.5.  Now I'm at 15.1.  I've cleaned the MAF, but I may clean it again and put plugs in it.

What did you use to clean your MAF with?  Might have to give it a try...

ou can get CRC Mass airflow cleaner from most auto parts stores.  JUst a matter of removing sensor, and a couple quick sprays.   SOme recommend cleaing them off every few oil changes.

I told myslef I quit posting here, BUT...
  On a trip to the TGI Fridays GTG in greenville, I followed another fellow member.   Hes got a huge av that wont go past 70mph.   With that, averaging about 60-65 mph, I got an awesome 19 mph.   Surprised me.
