Is there anyone out there who has over 200,000 on their Avalanche? Let us know what issues you have had if any? (Avalanche's are the best built truck out there)
Thanks, Durwin

Getting close. 195K. No real issues at all. Except maybe my Analog OnStar going away kind of irks me...But that's not the truck's fault.
Dependable, well built truck. Have replaced the Waterpump, Alternator, and 1 U-joint. Doesn't leak anything, or use any oil. Still regularly bounces off the red line too, not driven gingerly by any means.

Thanks for the responses. I'm saving up now for front suspension and brake parts. At least now I have a better idea of what might fail and the vehicle.
Anyone else?

I have relatively low mileage for a 6-year old Av (65K), but I hope to keep it way past 100K miles.  Right now the only problem I'm having is keeping the Av alignment correct, as it seems to always pull one way or the other, especially after I tow my travel trailer with it.  Other than that, all I've replaced is the brakes and battery (both recently) and done regular maintenance.

I gave my '02  with 210K on it to a friend.  Besides the usual maintenance items like 1 battery, brakes, shocks, tires, oil changes, a broken windshield from a rock, a few flat tires, I had one problem with the transmission.  It was a minor thing and happened so long ago I don't remember what it was.  Oh almost forgot the power window on the rear driver's side door doesn't work.

He is still driving the truck, he calls it his "show off" car and only drives it on weekends.

I'm currently pushing 137K and plan on keeping him running to 200K.  Just starting to require normal maintenance, need to replace the blower fan resistor, belts and fluids.

My first Service Engine Light came on at 134K - P0430 and I changed the passenger o2 sensor, plugs & wires.  The cats are bad and I used to have a rattle in the exhaust until I drove 4K miles to Michigan and back!  Somehow it went away.  So I'm not long for a new exhaust.

I read these posts and it is mind-boggling to me how the public perception is that Honda and Toyota are still way ahead of GM in quality.

It's mostly public perception that a vehicle is over the hill at 100K or that Toyota and Honda have better build quality.
Vehicles are designed much better to last longer than before. As long as the vehicle is serviced regulary there is no reason it should not go over 200,000.

They build them decent years ago too, just for whatever reason folks didn't think much about it.

Here's the list of my DD's throughout the years.

87 Dodge D150 - 175K without major repairs, the motor was tired though.
81 Trans Am - Got it's first motor rebuild at 210K, and rebuilt the 4-speed manual a few months later.
89 Cherokee 4x4 - 245K before I pulled the head due to a bad head gasket.  Otherwise outstanding truck.
94 Grand Cherokee, original trans was slowly dying so I replaced it at 187K, sold it when the truck had 223K and the motor still ran and passed emissions no problem.
80 Grand Wagoneer - Was placed in a field for eight years, had 118K on the clock.  I pulled it out, changed the fluids, drove it to 134K with no more issues before selling it to a teenager.
85 Chevy Suburban 6.2L Diesel, bought from original owner, he said it had flipped over twice, was darn close to 278K, I drove it over 300K prior to a bearing going.  On a side note, it had been in Alaska all it's life and had more idling hours on it than it had driving.
91 Suburban, 6.2L Diesel, again idled more than it drove, had 245K when I got it, I killed it with 321K, rebuilt it cheap and sold it.
97 Suburban 6.5L Diesel got it with 197K, had 265K when I got rid of it, I replaced the A/C compressor right before I sold it as it quit.  That's the most work I've had to do to a DD since I had changed the trans on the Grand Cherokee almost six years before.

I'm not exactly kind to my vehicles, but I do know how to take care of them.  I have run synthetics in everything for years, and it's amazing how big a difference that makes.

No I wasn't kidding when my signature said that my 05 Avy is my first DD with less than 100K, heck, I've only had a few that had less than 200K.
Logged

220K.

I'm actually overdue for another set of those 100K mi sparkplugs...

-Still has all the original front end components, and original factory alignment. No play, and she tracks beautifully.

-Still has the original factory serpentine belt and ignition wires. I'll be throwing a set of Taylors on it when I do the plugs. Might do the serpentine. Might not.

-Pennzoil 5W30 and Wix filter every 3000 miles. Doesn't use any oil between services.

-Changed the F & R diffs, Transfer Case fluid, and flushed the tranny (original filter still in there) at 100 and 200K.

Never skips a beat or lets me down. Driven 100 miles round trip- 5 days a week. 17MPG regularly.

Actually, there are plenty of Mercedes driving around with 400 or 500K miles on them. The recent cars are not as reliable, as many of my friends will tell you.

Geez - 200K, sounds like a ton of miles. However, I realized I'm about to pass 50K miles.  My biggest complaint is that the truck is too small.   :P

'02 with 283,000.
Rebuilt transmission this year.
Replaced alternator end of last year.
Minor things previously; serpentine belt, belt tension adjuster, etc.
Other than that, a wonderful truck.
I drive at 75 MPH most of the time on the highway.

165K here...mostly highway miles.

I only run Synthetic oil...usually moble one.
Trans, transfer case, diffs have Royal Purple.

Every 50k miles I do a complete fluid flush.  Engine, trans, transfer case, diffs.
I had that "crank position sensor " problem and replaced that

Chevy replaced the gas tank after many problems the first year...it wouldnt fill.

I have replaced one of the Catalytic converters, the brakes, tires, etc...

It does burn one quart of oil between oil changes....but has done that since new.

It seems like I have to replace the serpentine belt every 3 months or so because it squeels.

A few months ago I bought an 02 2500 with 242,000 on it.  It needed new brakes all around and had a leaky seal in back.  I just put in a new driver's door window motor.  Other than these the only thing I know it had is a new transfer case.  I wish I knew more about it's history.  It drives great though.  I love it so far.  Im up to about 145,000 now.

I've got 175000 miles on my 03. So far I have replaced my transmission, brakes, water pump, windshield, tires and light bulbs.  My heated seats have gone out for the second time, and I have had to change the driver side window switchs for the second time.  My 6 disk cd player has just went out also.  I hope to put another 100k miles on this truck.  Oh , and I just replaced my Cat converters

Bought my 2006 two years ago with only 9,000 miles - that's right 9,000  not only that, got it for a song - (gas was close to $4/gallon). :4:

She's rounded 40,000 now and ticking like a Swiss watch.  I keep tinkering with stuff, and every mod has produced better results than anticipated.  I plan on keeping her WELL beyond 200,000!

I'm at 137k on my 04' and the only thing that I have done other than the normal oil changes are the belts, transmission fluid, one windshield. I am looking to leveling it and fixing the rear passenger door because it doesn't want to open or close with the remote. other than that, it has been really great and definitely looking to get over 200k because there are too many things on my list that I want to do.  :1: :drive:

Is there anyone out there who has over 200,000 on their Avalanche? Let us know what issues you have had if any? (Avalanche's are the best built truck out there)
Thanks, Durwin

I have about 209,000 miles on my 05' z71 Av. My cooling fans were coming on in the middle of the night and draining the battery. Ended up being the PCM. Dealer Changed that out for me but somehow got somehow getting moisture in the sealed unit. Dealer explained to me that they were having trouble with those particular PCMs. Finally replaced it again.
Crankshaft position sensor relearned after and knock sensor still coming up in the codes. Went through procedure to relearn crankshaft position sensor but knock sensor is still coming up in codes. I am not going to replace the knock sensor right now because it was not on before all of this mess started. Plus it's a $70 sensor and located under the intake manifold. Listed as a 3 hour job. Hopefully the check engine light will go out after the truck gets used to having a new computer in it.

Bought my '03 1500 with 185k miles.  Oil pressure is about 10 at idle, goes up to 30-35 when I throttle up.  I'm going to convert it to a manual transmission and have a replacement engine to drop in at the same time (actually have a whole 5-speed 4wd drivetrain).

Bought a 2004 Z66 brand new in December of 2003.  I now have 209,000 miles on it and the most significant repairs that I have made are replacing the water pump and having the alternator rebuilt.  This has been an absolutely fabulous vehicle!

This is a "good news" thread for me to be reading considering all the trouble I'm going through getting my new bumper and wheels installed.  I was seriously beginning to question my decision to not just keep it stock after my accident in December.  I got it in Aug of 2003 and it now has 66k miles on it now, so at this rate I'll hit 200k in July of 2026.   :P

I bought my 2002 Sunset Orange 1500 Avalanche in Nov.2001, I now have 242,000+ miles and still going strong. I replaced my transmission and rear end at 160.000 and replaced the fuel pump at 172.000. Other than that there have not been any major issue with my truck. I travel a minimum twice a year from Phoenix, AZ to East Texas 70 miles from Shreveport, La.. So far the truck has been there and back 15 times.
My only problem I have with the Avalanche is the key (ignition), it has locked on me twice once under warranty the other cost $225.00 dollars. There have been 7 family members purchased Avalanche's after riding with me in mine. I'm now looking forward to getting my second one next year, only bad thing is that I can't get CLADDING AND BUMPER that came on the first models.

Now 206 K miles..

Recently did a lot of work.
Rebuilt rear end
new windshield
new alternator
new fan clutch
new magnaflow cat back
new water pump
needs new tires soon
needs new radiator

***UPDATE***

I now have 307,000 original miles on my Avy. I thought she was unstoppable. On 27APR11 at exactly 0600, i found the one thing that could bring her down. At the same time, my family was given a second chance to evaluate our own lives and the lives of those around us. Once the rain finally stopped, I found the my truck crushed by a 24" diameter oak tree that once afforded us shade in the mornings.

Iv'e got 208,000 on an 04'. Nothing major, just routine stuff. Front end, shocks, brakes, tires. I change the oil every 3000 miles , and have used synthetics since day one. It has been a very reliable vehicle.

I'm at about 175,xxx.  Plan on keeping the Avy, well, my dad does, so I guess I'll keep driving it over 200k.   :B:

I've had several AC resistors die on me, and recently the resistor that controls fan speeds 1-4.  I can't seem to find the write-up on how to fix it, I remember seeing it in the past.
For now it either blows on full blast (setting 5), or I roll the windows down.     :P

Hey, all you 200K+'ers out there...

Do you use I guess what would be known as regular oil, or the synthetic? I have a 2004 with 59K and would like to know if the switch is worth the extra cost? 6 quarts will be pretty expensive oil change, even at home. Let me know and thanks!

Just got done putting new spark plugs in after rolling over to 200k. Only problem I have had is washer fluid pump went out. I use this every day pulling a landscape trailer. Runs like a tank and will drive it till the engine blows then will replace the engine and keep on driving it.

My '02 Z71 has just over 241k miles and I still abuse her in the back country.   My skid plates tell tales!  I've only had to replace the Cat converters, otherwise normal maint. - tires, brakes, oil . . . Last year the oil pressure gauge started to go - always registering pressure, even when off.  Finally broke a few months ago pulling a trailer out of Yosemite.  Hope to match Stemrt someday!  Just put a new set of tires on this week.

Currently at 187,000. Replaced: brake pads and rear rotors at 104,000, front shocks at 120,000, passenger window motor at 125,000, rear speakers at 135,000, alternator at 145,000, knock sensors at 168,000, O2 upstream at 184,000, O2 downstream at 187,000. Note O2 sensors replaced because of drop in gas mileage never had an error code. After replaceing gas mileage returned to 18-19 (5.3) and engine runs like new. Also on my 3rd set of tires typically get 70-80000 on tires. Also I tow constantly with this truck. Towed from Ohio (6,000 lbs) to Portland, OR. at 183,000 miles, no problems. I have added dual 12 inch electric fans, removed the engine driven cooling fan and also added a trans cooler.

Just about to turn 280,000 on my '03. I've only owned it for about a year, it was a one owner and he took good care of it. I have driven it from Ca to NH twice in the last 6 months, it runs great.

Have 232,000 on mine.  Original owner from June of 04.  Just put a new tranny in it  :D:.  Now for the real problem.  Have replaced the rear diff bearings 3 times and need to do it again.  Anyone else having same problem.  :deadhorse:  Do not want to go to dealer, because can buy a new one for what they want in rebuild. :help:

There's something definately wrong or bent in the housing or someone doesn't know how to install them properly. The bearings should last the life of 3 vehicles. I'd look for a new shop. To install the bearings takes about 2 1/2- 3 hours and a rebuild kit is in the $200.00 price range. No way a rebuild should cost as much as a replacement. What worries me is it's a reoccurring problem. Might be better off to find a good used unit at a salvage yard.

'02   Z71    with 237k on it

I am the original owner (Got it with 24 miles)

The first year I went through 3 engine computers.

Since then normal wear items;  (Oil, brakes, shocks, tires)

Front hubs at 125k

Complete rear axle last week, I do allot of towing for my fireworks company

This is definitely a work truck.  I live in Illinois, have a warehouse in Mich. and a manufacturing facility in PA.

Love this truck!

I do kinda want some of the electronic upgrades from the newer AV's

I have 196 k  and change on my 02 Avy. right now granted I bought it with 194 k.  I am impressed that the truck runs like it only has 50k on it, and I only have one issue as of right now.  That issue is that my ABS light comes on once and a while and goes back off.  When I got the truck all the brake lines, shocks, coil wires, and water pump has all been replaced.  Some small leaks in the tonaue cover but nothing major.  All in all very impressed with my Avy !!  :D

Count me in. Left for my annual trip out west towing my Travel Trailer. Left with 198400 now at 204800. Original engine used less than a pint of oil through trip. Did pickup a slight rumbling in the tranny 350 miles from home still shifted great, went ahead and pulled it since I was gonna go through it this winter anyway. Got a feeling it's the planetary gear set, not apart yet. After 40+ years of heavy towing with various trucks have found most need tranny work between 100000 and 150000 miles. I originally got a deal on this truck because tranny was out at 94000, have ran 110000 miles on my original rebuild with heavy towing. After this rebuild will be ready for 300000. Also worth adding that a jeep owner in Yellowstone commented on how good the truck looked and then about passed out when I told him how many miles were on it.

Yes, I just turned 281,000 on my 02.   Great vehicle. But motor is going south.
Love the cladding look, and the new ones are so expensive. I can't give it up so I will replace the engine.

When we bought ours it had 175k on it, now we have 232k on it. Brother in law blew out the 3.73's pulling a way too heavy load he was told not to do, so she sits for now. Still a good running truck. He borrowed a 1 ton ford & blew out the rear end in it too.... way to heavy of a load...ya think....

 8) Well here I set with 198800 on my Avy and I still havent done any mods to her.  I would like to go with a cold air intake from K&N, tint the front windows, a nice set of chrome nerfs, and change ALL the interior lights to blue LEDs.  I think that will be a xmas gift to her or her 200000 milestone what ever comes first.

My '02 just hit 237,000 and I will be looking for the 250K mark before thinking about a replacement truck.
Bought her new Sept 7, 2001.
Original engine and my second trans.
Just can't find anything else that will do everything the AV does.

2002, 260K and i off-road it regularly, had to put a locker in the rear, because i did something stupid and blew the rear end up, other than that its all been routine maintenance. she runs royal purple and doesn't burn a drop of it, although it gets changed at 3k, no matter what the computer thinks.

That issue is that my ABS light comes on once and a while and goes back off.

My airbag light has been going on and off randomly for years.  I just wait until I hit a bump and it goes out again.

Very nice to see the 300,000 miles

I have an 02 Sage Green North Face Edition that I bought with 50,000 miles and now have 240,000 miles.  At 240,000 miles it still looks good and runs good.  I plan to retire it to become my work truck when it hits 300,000 miles and replace it with the 2013 Black Diamond Edition.  I will then have both bookends to the era of the Avalanche.

This has been the best and most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.  I have had Lexus, Cadillac and Pontiac cars that all went away before they hit 150,000 miles because they became unreliable.  The only other vehicle I had that made it over 200,000 before I got rid of it was a Chevy S-10 pickup that I gave to a nephew at 230,000 miles.

I will never own anything again that is not a Chevrolet Truck.

Just about to turn 268K on my 05. Have run the heck out of this thing all over the Carolinas and throughout the South. Drove 5,200 miles to Yellowstone and back in 08 pulling a 25' Coachmen camper. This has been one heck of a truck. 5 or 6 sets of tires, regular maint only except for computer (PCM) which was changed out a couple of times before I finally figured out it was battery acid leaking causing the pins to corrode on the computer.

I love this truck! Believe it or not the worst part to me is the driver's seat is worn slap out from getting in and out on construction jobs. It's a little uncomfortable and the seat heater doesn't work anymore but otherwise is still a good truck.

However, engine has been knocking intermittently for a few months now and recently the oil pressure has a hard time getting up, especially in the colder weather. The knock comes and goes and is sometimes louder than other times. Don't know if this is a connecting rod, valve or what but wondering if I should drive this thing until it blows and then get a new engine or have it rebuilt?? 5.3 Vortec.

Love my truck and would love to keep it....

It would be nice to see how many engine hrs as well as mileage.  My 08 LTZ looks & drives like new but only has 119,000 miles & 3012hrs.

My 99 Suburban went 203,000 miles before needing a tranny. Motor still ran great but I swapped in a 450+hp 383 stroker then sold it with 256,000 miles still looking like new & running better than new.

My 89 S-10 Blazer had 190,000 miles on it when I donated it.  It still looked new inside & out with near perfect black paint. The only repair other than normal maintenace was an ignition switch.

My 85 Caprice wagon had 160,000 miles on it with no major repairs. Survied 4 kids with a near perfect interior & flawless paint when I sold it, We did alot of traveling all over the USA & never had any issues.

My 81 Z28 had 268,000 miles on it when I sold it with no major repairs. Even the ac blew cold & had never been repaired.

I drive my rigs hard but I also take great care of them.  I love my Chevys

Hey folks, Newbe here.  Saw this site last nite and couldn't resist signing up.  Finally a support group for my obsession.  I am the original owner of my 02 Avy, NFE.  I just passed 350K...YaaaaaaHooooo!!!  Here is my baby's pedigree.  She's had to go under the knife a couple times, but she has the original paint and still waxes up reeeeeeeal good.
140K left front drive axle
180K fuel pump
190K altenator
240K Rear end (it disintergrated)
250K Head gasket (heart transplant, used motor with 70K on it)
270K Tranny (lost third gear, never found it, put in a rebuilt)

Not quite there yet, but I haven't had as good an experience as most who have posted. 170k so far, will hit 200k in 2014 at the current rate.  I love my Avalanche, but she's had her issues:

Besides regular, routine maintenance (inc tires, brake shoes, etc:
New engine @110k / spun a bearing
New damper motor (sounds cheap, but it was a major expense!)
New bearings in the rear transaxle
New front hubs (both - bad bearings/different times)
New ABS controller

Still dealing with Service Brake (ABS, TCM, Parking) light issue (argh!) - If I can't fix this (or find someone who can!), it may be the end of this Avy. It's driving me crazy!

I was about to put a Magnaflow system on it, but I'm holding off due to the brake issue.

Still drives GREAT, but that dinging is going to drive me bonkers.  I drive ~100 mi/day.

As of today, I just 240,000 miles on the dot. I've owned the truck since 2008 and I've loved it for every minute.

So far, it's eaten:

Power window switch [drivers side]
Rear bed cover gaskets
Transmission pan (thank you people who live poop in the road)
valve cover gaskets
two coil packs.

That's pretty much been it. It's had some 4WD issues, but I ended up removing all of that this past weekend [Check the for sale] and after I lowered it, I ended up switching to 2wd front wheel bearings. It's been a great truck and keeps chucking a long. As a matter a fact, I trust it more than my 09' Malibu!

 Finally made it. I have had my Z66 since new in 2002. Still runs great and looks as good as it runs. 207K Hope to one day join the 300k club.
I had to change the ABS Brain, alternator, still running with the same hoses and shocks. I have them check every 4k and I am told they are fine. Bought a new 2012 as a back up but haven't needed it yet.

208K Miles on it. Bought her used with 60K in December of 2003. Minor transmission issue, new windshield, and now I am replacing parts on the front end that are wore out. (Pitman/Idler Arms, Tie rods). Best truck I have every owned. Sad that they are discontinuing the Avalanche and the EXT. GM's best product of all time. I am hoping they return it with all the new technology that they put in the 2014 Silverados/Sierras. I work for a GM Dealership and it doesn't look good for future models.

I am at 201798. I have replaced the transmission at 198000. I just replaced the rear-end today, I pick her up in the morning. Besides those 2 things she has been a great truck. The transmission seems to enjoy running between 180 and 210. But I am always either climbing steep grades or going down steep grades. When I am cruising Hwy99 my transmission runs at 140-145, even pulling my camp trailer.  She has only left me stranded one time and that was 20 miles from home. It was when the transmission went. It gave no warning. I was just about done with a 300 mile drive. I accelerated to pass a slower vehicle and the transmission shifted perfectly. About 3 miles down the road I started the long climb out of the valley and that is when my RPM's went up to 4400 and my speedometer started going down from 65. I dropped into 3rd and there was nothing. So I pulled off onto the side of Hwy 41. I came to a stop put it in park then down into 1st. She took off just fine until I shifted to 2ND then nothing but free rev. I stopped again then put it in reverse to be in a better position for the tow truck. Luckily I still had reverse. I looked at my tranny temp and it was 228 when just 5 minutes ago it was 178.
The rear-end I thought was a wheel bearing. It was making the slightest sound you could only hear with the windows rolled up. My mechanic thought it was a wheel bearing also. After we found out it was not a wheel bearing we pulled the rear-end apart to do a service and that is when we found metal shavings.
I figure the little amount of money I have had to spend on my Av over the past 9 years is nothing. When the engine goes I am going to have it rebuilt and continue on. Sure beats making a $600.00 payment.

didnt get the pleasure to run the clock up on mine like most of you but mine has over 205k currently and from what I have seen so far ball joints been replaced, water pump, unknown tune ups, unknown sets of tires, but the engine and trans are very solid.. after having the front end re-aligned Im sure the rubber eating will be a lot less. still has issues with the ABS pump running constantly but the module is out for repair and due back any day. and a simple gas cap change and I am nearly lositive she will be ready for another 50 to 100k. cant beat how it rides on a long trip...

I have 238,00 miles on my '02.

The following is a complete list of items I had to replace:

Front wheel hubs - 200k and 230k (aftermarket crap parts)
Fuel pump - 190,000
Thermostat - 180,000
Exhaust manifold gasket - 170,000
Brake rotors - Every 50,000

Amazingly enough, it still has the original shocks and struts and it rides real smooth. No noticable tire wear.

203,000 As of today.  And STILL going strong.

103,000 new Engine
130,000 new Fuel pump
175,000 new Transmission

Seriously considered buying a 2013 Black Diamond... but really can't justify replacing what I've already got that still looks and runs great!

Well folks, hope I have good luck like many of you.  Just bought a 2006 with 136k.

Sport red, WBH.  Hope to jazz it up some with some LED/HID lighting mods.  Alternate vehicle for me - will drive it in the winter when necessary and a couple times/yr from PA to GA and back.  Probably 10k/yr

I've owned my 05 for 5 years , put 100k on it and have no ambitions to get a new one. This is the longest I have ever owned a vehicle. I have 160 on her now I will join the 200 club. and will probably hit the 300 club.

I have an '03 Z71 that I bought in 2011 with 193,000 miles (Paid 10.5 for it with a 1 year/12,000 mile warrenty on the drivetrain.)
This truck looked better than any other truck I looked at. None of the other trucks were under 12.5. They had less mileage but had lots of wear in the bed or cab or both. This truck had a worn label on the seat warmer switch, display on some of the radio buttons were worn off and there was a salt stain on the drivers floor. Otherwise no noticeable wear at all. The drivers seat looked to be a slightly different shade so it probably was recovered. Guessing it was a salesman truck or a truck someone never had passengers in or a load in. The hitch was bent down so they likely towed something with it.

Now has 222,000 miles on it and I have a short list of issues with it.
Since buying this truck I have had to put wiper blades on it, rear brakes and new shocks that is it.
While under warranty they replaced front wheel bearing assemblies, u-joint and changed some gaskets.

Current list of issues that need to be fixed and will be in the next 2 months:
Front brakes need caliper bracket, pads, rotors. (Great time to upgrade to the bigger ones.)
Needs new tires soon. One tire has 6/32 tread while the others have a little more.
Transmission slips a little. Has slipped since I bought it but getting worse lately.
Seem to have a loud whining coming from the front that doesn't sound like tire noise.
Rear end leaking a very little amount of lubricant.

Plan is when I get my taxes back to go in and have the drivetrain gone through. The transmission will be rebuilt, the transfer case will be upgraded to prevent the hole and the shop will look at the front differential. Due to the dust shields for the rear brakes being rusted away going to have new ones put on. While it is apart going to have the seal and gasket replaced in the rear end, the lube replaced and the rear bearings replaced. Going to replace the dust shield with a 2 piece dorman unit.

Brakes will be done in the front as well. Will likely just get mid grade rotors and ceramic pads.

Also has the knock sensor issue I need to address at some point. I went through a deep puddle and it threw a knock sensor code for about a month. It eventually apparently dried out and the code eventually reset. I MAY do this one myself. Shouldn't be a big job from what I have seen as long as I can get the old knock sensors out.

All in all the truck is doing well. 30,000 miles and little maintenance is a good thing. When I get done doing what I plan to do now I hope to not need to do anything major to it for another 100,000 miles.

Hello,

I have 207,500 miles on my 2003 Z71 1500...original owner.  Only real trouble I had was auto 4wd kicking in due to computer issues...turned out to be the relay disc, not the module...that was at about 80k miles...drivers door module died and was replaced, probably accelerated by rain drip and my messing with it.  Rear pop out window moulding cracked, but no biggie there. I had a remanufactured 4L60E tranny installed about 25k miles ago due to a total failure of the original.  I have the 4:10 axle and a 6" fabtech sus lift kit running 325.75.17 Toyos, which all went on the truck after 100k miles.  Since then ive replaced the Pittman and idler arms and both front hubs...the lift and wheel offset may have accelerated that, but still..got good distance before failure and all is good to date...Right now, I have a steady check engine light which came on after the cruise revved the rpms going over some overpasses...was flashing and resolved after stopping, then next drive went steady on....so I'm going to see what is up....right now the engine is dogging bad, but i have not been very happy with what I feel to be loss of power for a while...perhaps due to larger tires?... I am considering that if / when the engine is spent, dropping another engine in there - hoping for improved performance with what I have in the drivetrain now.  Perhaps a fresh engine will be enough.  I don't tow often, I just want a reliable giddy up when I want it.

Who do you trust to get decent information on engine replacement based on a specific truck setup?  I realize that relationships with local shops are important, but is there a company or group out there any of you have used to get a good idea on specs for replacement engines to get me started?  It is my daily driver...

Thanks alot for any help!

hey guys any one have had a sqeuling/chirping niose i replaced my u joints thinking it was that and checked all the brakes not those there good i question a wheel bearing sounds like its coming from the rear and pulled off both back wheels and moved them around they seem all tight so i dont think a wheel bearing is it could it be one of those two back bushings in the transfer case it sounds like the noise could be coming from there when i jack it up and spin the drive shaft
thanks for any help you could give

I have 204k miles on my 2004 Avalanche. Not a single issue! I have a loaded Z71, I dont even have tears in the leather! No knocking, the only real noise I hear cone from the engine is just the lifters, for only 30 seconds after u start it, and you reaaallly have to be listening for it to notice. 4x4 works fantastic, I have zero issues/complaints! I have no loss of power and the Super 44 I have on it makes it sound like a race truck! Long live my Avy

EDIT: I do have the G80 rear locker. No issues!

I hear you! I have a 2002 Z71 with 154,000 miles that I have owned for 7 years . The big problem I am having now is numerous code such as ABS sensor which I can live with , po 300 misfire code keeps coming up. The big problem is service engine light flashes at 60 mph and truck runs rough and wants to die at idle. At lower speeds no problem. My mechanic looked at it and said plugs 5 and 6 are misfiring big time . We checked the coil packs they are ok . plugs and wires are ok.The only thing remaining is lifters or camshaft or cat. Since 5 and 6 are in line on the same cam lobes maybe those lifters are hanging or cam shaft has issues. I also was told to clean the throttle body ,replace sensor under intake manifold, or replace the catalytic converter. Anyone out there have any suggestions i am stumped!!! Help!!!

Help!!!
i can speak on the abs sensor you pull of the wheel the brake the rotor and it has a single allen bolt holding it in it unplugs and your plug in a new one and i bought a c hub with a abs sensor for $60 so they can be to bad in price and probably irrelevant but how old are your knock sensors? i replaced myn it helped alot with timing and so on better mpg and thats the extent of my knowlage on engines so hope fully it was helpful good luck!!

If your mechanic diagnosed the misfire to cylinders 5 and 6 by looking at additional codes/computer data, keep in mind the computer data isn't 100% accurate as to which cylinder is misfiring - it will often identify not only the problem cylinder, but also the ones that fire immediately before and after as well.  With 6 firing just before 5, you may only have a problem with one.

I would clean the throttle body as well as your MAF sensor and see where that gets you.  Those are both practically free fixes so I'd start with the simple easy and cheap before moving on to looking at the more expensive fixes.  I'd also suggest after those thinking about changing your front two O2 sensors if those are still original.

I have 218000 on my 2003 Z71 and still really love this truck.   I replaced the Tranny last summer and this summer did the same with the engine.    The engine had suddenly developed a loud ticking noise that could not be ignored.    I took it to the dealership they said it was a bad or worn cam lobe.   They could replace the cam shaft and rocker arms and perhaps something else but it would run $4500.   The new engine option was 2K more.   Since they are not making Av's anymore and since it had 218000 miles on it and since I haven't found a truck that could really replace it, I went for the new engine.  Brought it in on a Monday and got it back on Thursday.   Runs nice and feels solid.

Did you do the tank drop? I would have recommended cutting the hole in the floor under the backseat. It takes about 10 minutes to cut out and 2 minutes to change pump. Best thing is, if you plan on keeping yours for life like I am. The fact that I can change my fuel pump at anytime anywhere for the price of a fuel pump. As for damage to the truck there is non. When you are all done everything fits so nicely together you could never tell you cut it. I would recommend running a bead of silicone to help get a better seal. I added hinges and a hasp. I then have a speaker box that sit over it and then the seat on top of that.

Picked up a orange 02 Z66 this past weekend. Exactly 201000. When we took it for a test ride. Ran and shifted like new. Had to throw some maintenance items on it to git it to ride/drive right. Tires, align, steering box adjustment.  Any advice on shocks? All but one has leaked oil out. (left front)

I have experience with the Bilsteins 5100 series.  I absolutely loved them.  But I am going for the Monroe reflex this time. but I think your best bet would be something between these 2.  I also hear that Rancho has some good ones for our Avys too.

Went with the Reflex on the front. Got great deal (free) on a set of oem load levelers for rear with less than 20k miles on them. All fluids are Mobile one now. Replaced all filters. AC Delco plugs and wires go on tomorrow. Ran outa time yesterday to finish and work tied me up today.
Appearance is next. Turning cladding black, making wheels look black chrome, and a custom Z66 sticker. Trying to figure out what to do with the bowtie on front.

Hi,

My 2005 1500 LT is at 150,700 miles.  I have done the following:
   * Knock sensors
   * Drive belt
   * Water pump
   * F & R differentials (fluid change)
   * Transfer case (fluid change)
   * Rotate tires every 5K/LOF every 3-5K

Had mechanic attend to a huge misfire caused by water in computer - $300.

Currently have airbag warning light that I am trying to resolve.

LOVE MY AV!!!

195000 and counting slowly since I use my other vehicles as daily drivers. Come summer however the Avy will be clocking miles again as it is the preferred vehicle for interstate travels that requires driving. Can't wait to officially join the club.

Oh yes still on original engine and tranny with no issues as of yet
...and the engine has been running for 7463 hours

You don't drive it very fast Dluvr22 - that or you have it sitting idling a lot.  I've got nearly 100,000 more miles on mine and I'm yet to hit 7000 hours.

Not yet, but getting there.  Just bought my '05 on Monday, watched it turn 186,000 on my way to work on Tuesday  :D

Loving it thus far, but then, I've always loved the look of the Avalanche, I'm only just now able to afford one, LOL.  Gotta keep the wife's/family mobile dependable, thus I've always been "stuck" driving older cheaper rides that I can fix in case of a breakdown/issue, ya know.  But the Bonneville was getting past the value-to-cost for work ratio for me, and this ride just happened to find me.

My wife has dubbed it The Great Pumpkin (guess what color it is), I'm still working on her "official" name, though I do like the nickname.
Thinking possibly Autumn (keeping with the pumpkin theme), but still need time to get her personality and get a fitting name.

Oh, and Hi, I'm Jim  :)

Got the 2004 Z71 cladded and I love it. I actually prefer the cladding, I'll always shine it up when I detail the Av. Anyways back to the thread... My Lanche has 220k on it and the only problems I have had with it are, My brakes gave out on me while driving on the highway. That was no ones fault other than my own. I just replaced the serpentine belt due to an unbelievably loud chirp. I switched from gator back to a dayco (not by choice i may add, only thing the local autozone sold) and it shut right up. I was wondering if anybody out here could help me along the way with any preventative maintenance i could do to keep this thing going strong.  :B: :B: :help: :welcome: :welcome:

My wife has dubbed it The Great Pumpkin (guess what color it is), I'm still working on her "official" name, though I do like the nickname.
LoL The day we went and looked at and bought my sons was Halloween. Told him we was going to meet the great pumpkin.
I'm a Jim also.

This club is eluding me.
At this rate, I'll be lucky if I am either be joining the club on my way to Pigeon Forge or on my way back.
It's been 3 months since I clocked 195000. I've barely put a 1000 miles on since then.

2004 Z-71 I've owned for 7 years... 242,000 miles... Only issues have been alternator, water pump, steering wheel clunk, gauge cluster lights and tires... I replaced the steering inter midate shaft and converted the gauge lights to blue led... It still drives and rides like the day I bought it!

So far....

Alternator
AC Compressor and Drier
2 sets of tires
Rotors
2 sets of Brakes
Plugs and Wires
Dimmer Switch
Intake Manifold Gaskets
Shocks
Tow/Haul switch wire

Going to have the transmission serviced soon, and next year I think I'm going to need new some suspension work.

My Avy is just over 250,000 miles... Still running strong.. The rear end has had some issues which have been mostly taken care of but other than that the only issues I have had are an Impact sensor, the cluster going out, the mirror display for temp and direction is intermittent, knock sensor, intake manifold gasket and I am sure I am missing some other minor stuff.. I bought it with 185,000 miles on it.

I have also redone the brakes, upgraded to the 900 brakes in the front and also had the transfer case and transmission rebuilt as precautionary measures. (Had the money and thought I had issues with them... Worst case, they won't go bad for a long time now.) I also put different tires on the truck and had the rims powder coated but those were not required either. Just wanted it to look better and I wanted to get new tires while I had the money for it.. (Figured I would have extra cash for a little while so I thought I would make sure the truck would last a while without any major repairs needed.)

I am like Redheadedrod, I replace things before they break. I call it preventive maintenance. I know the brakes last about 60-80k depending on your terrain. So when my pads get to a certain point in the rears I change all corners. My 02 goes through rear pads faster than fronts. My rears could be almost metal and my fronts still have 1/4". I don't know why but I do like it. Having that extra rear brake comes in handy for emergency braking situations and towing. My front does not nose dive when I slam the brakes at 80mph. This allows me to have better control of my steering. Now my tranny caught me completely by surprise. At about 198k, I was driving home from my sisters house. This was the return 150 miles home. I got to the intersection of 145&41N. I made a left and accelerated around a motor home , because from that intersection North it is 2 lane mountain road climbing 2500 feet out of the valley. Any ways when I passed she dropped into 3rd like she was supposed to. I got up to 60 and set cruise. The first hill I hit about a mile down the road. My RPM's hit 4000 but my Av was slowing down. I floored it and nothing happened. Luckily they was a turn out. I stopped checked my tranny temp it was only 225, engine was 190. So I put her in park. Then in reverse and she moved just fine. So I put her in drive and nothing. I put her in 1st and she took off fine. 2nd was the same, 3rd and 4th were done. So I decided instead of risking having my Av die in a place I could not get out of the way. I just called a tow. Luckily for me one was on his way to Fresno and picked me up instead. I had a new Jasper installed because they have all the updates GM doesn't. So $3000 and a week later I had a new tranny. The only thing I don't like is the gearing is just a little different. I use to run 2000RPM at 80mph now I am at 2350.

I last replaced my front hubs in June of 2014 right before a 800 mile trip to Indiana. I have since driven to Ohio and back twice, plus made the  3000 mile round trip to Pigeon Forge, TN this year in addition to regular day to day driving. My current wheel hub bearings are the Timkin brand. I highly recommend them. Before them I was changing wheel bearings every year or so. I bought a set of wheel bearing from Autozone that lasted about 10 months. Got another cheap set off the internet sometime later and they also lasted about the same length of time.

Timkin actually now has an Amazon store where you can get them a lot cheaper than anywhere else and they do offer a warranty through Amazon. I'd recommend getting them.

http://www.amazon.com/Timken-SP500300-Axle-Bearing-Assembly/dp/B001EGT3I4

They sell for $107.97 on Amazon versus $175 and change everywhere else I've looked.

Over the wheel cladding came on the 2500. It is a piece that mounts to the underside of the fender at the top above the tire.

203000 - Oil leak (add about 1 quart every 1000 miles), rebuilt transmission summer of 2014.  Best vehicle I have ever owned.  Still rides like a dream. CD player has ALWAYS been a problem.  Hasn't worked in 10 years, so I listen to the radio. About half the dash lights are out.

Ours came with 201,000 on it, but everything seemed solid when I test drove it. I'm used to owning high milage vehicles (Dually has 278,000, but it's a diesel and just coming into it's prime), and know how to treat them to make them last longer.

I'm about 20 miles away from 200k!  (I thought I was ahead of the game but everyone hit 300 four years ago!).  I have a 2004 Z71.  It originally had an extended warranty and it was in the shop more than it was out up until that warranty expired at 5 years.  It was constantly in for transmission issues until it finally had a transmission replacement.  It had a lot of seals leaking underneath.  The hook that holds the hood down started rusting off at 4 years old- I had to complain until they finally replaced it.  Electrical issues, displays, dash bulbs going out.  The gas tank had to be replaced three times because it wouldn't fill. Lot of issues with the HVAC actuators.  Since the extended warranty expired (which paid for itself about 3x over) the last 125k or so knock on wood its been a U-Joint, the fuel vent valve, the gauge motors, a back door lock that doesn't work when its below freezing, and now I am getting rust bubbles on the back fender wheel well.  XM cuts out on the right side from time to time.  I had a rear brake caliper freeze up, and I had to do the knock sensors. I've followed the maintenance to the letter and usually change the oil with Mobil1 Full Synthetic when it gets to 25-35% or so.  It drinks a quart of oil by about 45%.  It is almost all highway, and we take it offroading on Cape Cod in deep sand several times a summer.  It's also got a few more rattles but it still is in excellent shape and the inside is immaculate.  I finally stopped paying for OnStar.  They dropped stolen vehicle tracking and never said anything but kept charging the same amount.  It's a ripoff IMO.  I'm hoping to make it to 400k, but we shall see.  I don't know how I feel about another GM since they don't do the midgate or the cladding anymore.  One I can sleep on the beach and the other helps protect from scratches in the dunes.  I also feel like the nose on the new GM trucks is too low to go offroad where I go.  Hoping to get my other car paid off and be without a car payment for a few years!

Hello folks, I just joined this date and bought a 2002 model just 4 days ago with 236k. The truck is in pretty good shape. It has some plastic nicks and dings, passenger fog light assembly is gone from some run in with something and the plastic next to fog light hole is split. But as far as driving, it runs great, no engine noises and trans shifts smooth. I have run thru the 4 Hi and 4 Lo and they shift in and out fine. Even pulled a utility trailer and ZTR several miles and did not know it was back there. Big test will be this fall when I start hauling firewood out of the woods. I'm sure I'll be asking plenty of questions later

207K now!  Bought it in Dec 2012 with 116K on it.  Other than tires, oil and filters it has been a relatively trouble free ride.  Did a water pump a couple of years ago.  New transfer case encoder a couple years ago, needs one again.  New rear brake calipers last year.  New ball joints this year.  Has a leaking transfer case so the parts are ordered for the pump rub fix and encoder.  Going in the shop tomorrow to have the steering looked at.  It is getting a little sloppy.  Other than that, nothing!

Stereo has worked flawlessly.  Added a bluetooth to the radio.

Not bad for over 25k a year!  WAY cheaper than payments!  I think I'll keep her.  Oh, still gets 18-20mpg on the highway and around 15-16 combined.  Pretty darned good for a 6000lb 4WD!

Just bought one with 280,000 K on it. Previous owner took good care of it so it's in pretty nice shape. Had the knock sensor fault when I got it and 6 exhaust bolts were broke off. So as long as I had it down that far thought I'd look at the heads and they looked great, just bolted them back on. Also put long tubes on as long as I had to take the manifolds off anyway to replace the broken bolts.

This thread is reassuring. I bought mine with 163k. I've had to replace the knock sensors and one of the front half-shafts, but other than that, no major mechanical issues. Replaced the brake pads, rotors and shocks. Also got my gauge cluster rebuilt with new motors and LED backlighting. Looks like with proper maintenance, I've got another 100k to go, easy.

203 on my 07 LTZ...... bought it last year with 170 or so on it and am still impressed with it every time I drive it.
I can't say what has been replaced before I bought it but I've not really had to do anything to it myself. Burns some oil for sure but no leaks.

That's cool you gave your 02 to a friend. So he can pour money into it without much guilt given the price he paid, which was $0.  My brother-in-law sold it to me, albeit dirt cheap, but I do have to put money into it as well to get it to optimum condition.

2002 Z-66 just turned 280,000 today, still runs great and have had to add oil between changes 3 times in 10 years. Right rear fender is just beginning to bubble with rust, rocker panels are also rusting under the doors. Can't decide if I'm gonna fix them or not.

I just bought a 2003 fully loaded Z66 with 211k on it. It was a trade in at a dealership and they were not going to sell it because of a check engine light for transmission solenoid A. I am a master technician at a Lexus dealership so I convinced them to sell it to me. I bought it and had two tires, alignment, oil change and two shift solenoids with a new filter and synthetic fluid done. When I got it, it had no first gear and no 4th gear. After the solenoids it's now shifting through all gears and driving well. It does have a couple of the backlight bulbs out on the dash and steering wheel. Also had something loose in the front suspension/steering. I'm thinking that it might be a ball joint because of a noise on the left front that happens when I turn. I will get that sorted out. But so far I love the Avalanche!!! I've always liked the look and utility of them and I'm not disappointed in my first one. It's a major upgrade from my 1996 C1500 extended cab with cloth seats and manual windows and door locks.

Hello Avalanchers, I have 255k +! I have a slight wrist pin slap, according to a couple mechanics. I purchased the 2003 Avalanche 1500 a few years ago and it had 102k miles on it. I did normal services, tune up, filters, and all fluids. Ever since I bought it, I have changed oil every 3,000-3,500 miles. I have been using 20w/50 and add a quart of Lucas, since 200k mikes. This summer, I towed my 22' heavy pontoon boat 5 hours away. Engine and trans was getting hot on some uphill grades, and I was a bit worried, but cooled down as soon as I was on flat highway. I put boat in the lake and on the first rainy day I stopped into a auto repair shop and asked lots of questions. He was one mechanic that said wrist pin is slapping, and not to worry! So back to overheating, he suggested a trans cooler! I said it has one, I have tow package. Guess what, no trans cooler with this tow package!! He installed the trans cooler, and it cooled engine 20 degrees on the hills and much less overheating. trust me the ride home had same hills. Still going strong, and I have been expecting to get a crate motor for 2 years now!
I do all the minor work on my truck, I had a shop put the water pump on last year, and changed the belts.
Hope there is a bunch more 200k + Avalanches out there!

There are guys out there that will replace the backlighting in the gauge cluster & HVAC controls with LEDs. Mine had some burned out backlighting on the HVAC and a couple of the gauges. I had a guy local here to SoCal do most of the work, and just shipped off my cluster to Dash Doctor in Grand Rapids to activate the trans temp gauge I added. I'm amazed at these stories I'm hearing of reliability. Some of these things just inevitably come with age and mileage. Mine also needed relatively minor work at 163k to bring it up to snuff.

Not yet, but getting there.  Just bought my '05 on Monday, watched it turn 186,000 on my way to work on Tuesday  :D

Heeeeeeere's Jim!
Tuesday night, pulled into my driveway, looked at the odometer (I knew it was approaching and was keeping an eye on it).....199999.
Backed up, got back on the street, didn't even get half a mile down the road when it changed.
Pulled over, took a picture, went back home  :D

I read these posts and it is mind-boggling to me how the public perception is that Honda and Toyota are still way ahead of GM in quality.

I think GM's trucks are higher quality than their passenger cars, generally-speaking. 165k+ on my '04 Z71, and only minor repairs and maintenance so far.

If you have the tools, do a water pump yourself!  Lifetime warranty from OReillys and about 1/2 to one hour to do it.  Nice fan shroud design makes it a snap.

I bought my North Face edition new in 2002 and now have a little over 230,000 miles on it. Not too many issues, replaced the fuel pump at 150,000 miles, alternator about 210,000 miles, knock sensors around 145,000 miles, set of spark plugs and brake pads around 125,000 miles. Transmission is great and she still rides smoother than most cars and looks awesome, i plan on keeping this Avalanche forever, it just keeps going and going and going....

Hey guys. I've been a member since the early days when I first got my 2003 arrival blue Z71 1500 AV. I have enjoyed it immensely. I currently have about 270,000 miles on it. The worst of my issues was a tranny, so I did a rebuilt one with a great 3 year 30,000 mile warranty. That was back in 2011.i found out that my encoder motor was shot when they did it. Don't know why I didn't replace it then but I still haven't ( life gets in the way sometimes and I can do without 4-wheel drive for now)  I have a bit of rust above the passenger side rear tire, not really worried about it.coubrless fuel pumps. 2 water pumps. A brake line. Shocks. And one small accident ( not my fault st all) I don't known how much longer I'm ganna go with it. Maybe keep it as a second car. Who knows. Any one replace the encoder motor and have any tips I'd appreciate it. im on Long Island. Have a great day!!

Just over 250,000. Have replaced nothing but normal wear out items. Do have some issues with rear window defrost not lining up
with terminals, and a top box lock not working right , can't figure out how to remove lock. That's it. Knock Knock  Sorry 02 Z66

208K right here. No major issues I think most of my "issues" are cosmetic and things that come with a vehicle with such high mileage.
When it hit the 200K mark I replaced gaskets and mounts (it was leaking oil) but other than that no major issues. Dealing with gauges right now but engine runs great and no tranny problems. :)

237,546. Had the transmission rebuilt twice, only once was GM's fault. Rear end grenaded and was replaced. And all the little stuff that goes bad.

Hello all:
Just wanted to post that yesterday (23 May) at 3:52PM I officially joined the 200,000 mile club.
As my screen name implies she's an '03 and (so far), have only had to change the oil at 3k.
Got her in Nov of last year and don't know the previous history but I do know that she's probably the best vehicle I've owned in a LONG time.
Regards from Texas,
Dennie

Officially joined the 200,000 Mile Club this past weekend.

The old gal is still looking good to me at 200K.

Decided it would be a good weekend to go get the Party Barge 25 and bring it home from the storage shed down at the lake and give it a good cleaning.

Round trip of over 200 miles.

The EXT pulled like a dream through the hilly two lanes, rural highways and Interstate freeways without a single complaint.

I wouldn't want to do that on a daily basis since the average MPG was around 8.

All in all, this has been, without a doubt, the best vehicle I have ever owned.

At this rate, it will take many more years before I can join the 300,000 Mile Club, but I hope to give it good shot.

228,000 on mine. Rocker and rear quarter panels rusted to heck (that happened almost overnight)
I've replaced the following within the past year:

Transfer case due to pump rub through
Power steering pump
Water pump (this is #2)
Transfer encoder motor (this is #2)
Front hub assemblies
R front brake caliper. Froze up and toasted brake pads and rotor.
Brake pads and rotors :'(

The I have 210 KL on mine. Replaces all factory shocks at about 80K with shocks that are warrantied for life......they are still working fine, 2 U joints, brake lines........almost all of them, brakes including disks about 4 times, I added a transmission cooler when I first got it in 2006 as I was towing with it...... they say that over heating is the number one cause of transmission failure. I did have a transmission shifting problem in 2007 that was caused by a faulty ignition switch. I ended up changing the gas tank fill tube as it rusted..... in the fall of 2016. On the third set of tires.....I use Michelin LTX A/T this is my second set of them.......I use them summer and winter, the original exhaust system is still on it but I need to replace the muffler. The rear window defroster has not worked for quite some time as the metal connector lead is not connecting to the glass.....it has not been to bad without it. The rear bed panels leak as the rubber seals that push on each other have come loose from the panel itself.........I think water got in froze and made them separate. Rust over the wheel wells that I have been battling by touching up.....I have had it Krown sprayed every year since I got the truck......I guess they could have done a better job. For the most part the body looks good and the 5.3 runs like a top........I have been using synthetic for about 5 or more years. It rides very well and the repairs are cheaper than a new vehicle. Cheers

I am still fairly far off at 162k.  However, I fully intend to make 200k as this will be the first vehicle I've owned to do so.  This is the list of major items I have fixed up to this point:
- 2 windshield replacements
- Alternator
- A/C compressor
- 2 ABS controllers
- 1 Airbag module corroded due to water leak
- Rear axle bearings
- 3 sets of tires
- 2 transmission flushes and fills
- Anti-knock sensors
- Water pump

Other than that, the drivetrain is still 100% factory (and still on original muffler and exhaust!).  The LM7 engine, which has had Mobil 1 since the factory oil was drained out, still purrs like a kitten.  I'm still on the original fuel pump (knock on wood).

I want to at least get 5 more years of service out of Clifford, and figure about 4k of TLC and interior work should do it.  So far, I've spent about $1800 this year.  Upholstery shop is next.

I have 2002 4WD Z71 Avalanche.
I have owned it since 2004.

Early on the a/c compressor failed, deal replaced it.
Alternator failed in this year (2017), I replaced it.
Button on drivers side map light broke.
A little piston slap in the morning.

195,000 miles on it now.

With my 2002 Z66 at 296,000, just bought a really clean 2006 Southern Comfort Avalanche with 132,000 on the clock. I'm just completed transferring the all aluminum radiator, Curt receiver and brake controller from the 2002. Already installed 180 thermostat and replaced the rear springs on the 2006. Considering changing the 3:40 rear axle to 3:73 to match the 2002. I do a lot of long distance towing particularly in the Rockies. I've owned the 2002 for 10+ years and have towed across the Rockies with it 6 times. Weight of trailers ranger from 6200-6800 lbs. As far as the 2002 it still uses no oil and runs great. The only reason I'm replacing it is the outer rocker panels are rusted and it's beginning to bubble over the right rear fender, having spent most of it's life in Ohio. Don't feel like doing rust repair. The 2006 is almost perfect topside and underside, having spent it's life in southern TN. I haven't even listed the 2002 yet and have already had phone calls from people wanting to buy it. Love my Avalanches.

My '03 truck is closing in on 300k being at 270k now. It is starting to show some bubbling and rust starting to come through. SO with snow in the forecast this week I will be shutting it down for the winter and driving my "winterbeater" CTS-4.

Runs nice... (Better after the $3500+ I spent on it this year...)

Nothing majorly wrong at this point other than the rust in front of the rear wheels, the hood and one of the rear wheel wells.

Hit 224,000 miles last fall, on our way to 300,000.If Chevy re-introduces the AV I may have to buy one, but will hate to leave this one go. Owned brand new from July 2001. Minor oil leak from crank case gasket but will get fixed. Burns no oil. We use it for local and fishing trips. Off road occasionally. The Z71 option is great. We are into Geocaching and it is our go to vehicle for that.
