Setting Up A Local Club In Ten Easy Steps

STEP FOUR - PICK A DATE AND TIME:

Congratulations! You’ve marked your territory! People searching the club database now know about your plans to start a new club. Now is when the real work begins. The next thing you need to do is come up with a plan.

The first thing you need to do in creating a plan is picking a date and time. If you’re starting your first meet you should pick a date that is at least six weeks away. Eight to ten weeks is preferred. People are busy and need time to plan. Further you need time to work out all the logistics. Meeting dates should be on a Saturday, Sunday, or non-family holiday (Presidents Day, Columbus Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, etc.) After you’ve set up your first meeting you can start planning meetings every four to six weeks. You may even find your club members setting up their own meetings in between!  There is nothing carved in stone that says you have to have elaborate meets each time, but you shouldn't let more than 16 weeks go by without having an activity.

The next thing you need to pick is a time. A good club event will run from six to eight hours. You should set up your meeting time in the morning, usually between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. If you go earlier it can be a problem for people traveling a distance to the meeting point. If you pick later people will have to drive home when it is late at night. If you’re meeting is on a Sunday you should try to have a meeting time of 11:00 AM or 11:30 AM. This will allow people to go to church.

You should be arbitrary when picking your dates and times. It’s OK to ask for ideas but don't turn it into a committee. If the date and time you’ve picked just won't work, people will let you know. People trying to set up club meetings get bogged down in this in step because they want to please everyone.  Don't make that mistake!
