Chevrolet Avalanche Owner's FAQ Controls
Sometimes when I'm driving a Low Traction light comes
on. What does that mean?
How come the Traction Off light is on?
Traction Assist System - Low
Traction Light
Two-wheel drive 1500 series Avalanche's with the Z-66
package are equipped with the Traction Assist System. The Traction
Assist System works with your engine and transmission to help prevent,
and under more extreme conditions reduce rear-wheel spin. If one
or both of your rear-wheels looses traction engine power is
reduced. When the Low Traction light illuminates on your
Instrument Cluster it means this system is engaged. You may notice
some noise and reduced acceleration when it is engaged, but this is
normal. If the light stays on during normal driving you should
contact your Chevrolet dealer.

Manual on page 4-9. [Back Up]

If the Traction Off light illuminates on your

button to the left of your steering wheel showing an icon of a car with
skid marks behind it is how this system is turned off and on.
Press the button and the Traction Off light should go out. Press
it again it should come back on.
When your vehicle is stuck in sand, snow, or mud and
you have to rock it to break free, you should turn your Traction Assist
System off.
