Driver's Express Window - Rolling Window Down

The Driver's Window has an express down feature that rolls the window down with one touch.  This helps keep the driver's and free.  You can roll the window down part way if you'd like.  Simply press the driver's power window switch gently so it is not fully depressed and the window will roll down until you release.  If the window starts to roll completely down simply press the switch in the other direction briefly.

You can find more information in your Owner's Manual on page 2-3. [Back Up]

Window Lock Button - Function

The Window Lock button is located on the driver's side door above the four power window switches and below the power mirror controls.  The Window Lock button disables all of the passenger's power window controls.  This is useful if you have children in the backseat who are playing with the power window switches.  The driver can still control all four windows from their door with the switch engaged.

To engage the Window Lock simply press the button down.  The button will stay pressed down and you should feel a soft click in place.  To disengage the Window Lock simply press the button down again.  You should feel another soft click and the button should be elevated again.

You can find more information in your Owner's Manual on page 2-3. [Back Up]

Retained Accessory Power - Function

All Chevrolet Avalanche models come with a feature called Retained Accessory Power.  When you turn the ignition in your Avalanche off power is still available to the stereo, Power Windows, and Sunroof for 20 minutes or until a door is opened.  At the end of 20 minutes the power is no longer available until the ignition is set to Accessory/Run or you start your Avalanche.  Retained Accessory Power is available even if you remove the key from the ignition and remains available until a door is opened.  The key benefit of this is you can still roll up windows or close your sunroof after you've shut your Avalanche down.

You can find more information in your Owner's Manual on page 2-28. [Back Up]

Programmable Automatic Door Locks - Programming Steps

All Chevrolet Avalanche models come equipped with Programmable Automatic Door Locks.  From the factory your locks are programmed to lock all doors when you shift out of Park, and to unlock all doors when you shift into Park.  They are also programmed out of the factory to lock the doors when you exceed approximately 15 MPH if the doors are unlocked (say if you did that manually).  This is both a safety and a convenience feature.

You can reprogram the Automatic Door Locks to operate to your liking, or completely disable them.  The locks can be programmed with four possible settings.

To program your locks read these instructions all the way through first and then follow them:

  1. Put the key into the ignition but leave it OFF (don't turn the key).  This is very important.

  2. Bull the turn signal/multifunction lever towards you (as if you were turning on your high beams) and hold it.  Do not release the lever.  This is also very important.

  3. While still holding the turn signal lever towards you turn the key to RUN (not START) and then back to OFF (not ACCESSORY) twice.  When you return the key to the OFF position for the second time release the turn signal.  The door locks should lock and unlock.  If this does not happen you need to repeat steps one through three.

  4. You now have 30 seconds to reprogram the door locks.  You have four possible options

    • ALL DOORS LOCK/DRIVER'S DOOR UNLOCKS
On the driver's door press the Lock Button once and then the Unlock Button once.

    • ALL DOORS LOCK/ALL DOORS UNLOCK
On the driver's door press the Lock Button once and then the Unlock Button twice.

    • ALL DOORS LOCK/NO DOORS UNLOCK
On the driver's door press the Lock Button once and then the Unlock Button three times.

    • NO DOORS LOCK/NO DOORS UNLOCK
On the driver's door press the Lock Button twice.

If you want to cancel reprogramming the door locks during this time simply turn the key to RUN (not START) and the doors will lock and unlock again.  This indicates the procedure has been cancelled and the original setting has been retained.

If you take longer than thirty seconds the doors will automatically lock and unlock, also indicating the procedure has been cancelled.

You can reprogram the locks as many times as you like.

You can find more information in your Owner's Manual on page 2-7. [Back Up]

Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter - Door Unlock

The Unlock button on your Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter is programmed to unlock the driver's door or all doors.  If you want to unlock only the driver's door (say if you're by yourself) press the Unlock button once on your Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter.  If you want to unlock all the doors then press the Unlock button twice within three seconds on your Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter.  If it still does not work make sure you are pressing the button all the way and that you are close enough to your Avalanche for the remote to work.  If you have to get very close to your Avalanche before the doors will unlock you may need to replace the battery.

You can find more information in your Owner's Manual on page 2-10. [Back Up]

Remote Panic Alarm - Deactivation

If you activate the Remote Panic Alarm by accident simply press the red Panic button on your Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter once and the alarm should stop.  If this doesn't work the alarm will go off after thirty seconds.  If the panic alarm won't stop contact your Chevrolet dealer.

You can find more information in your Owner's Manual on page 2-11. [Back Up]

Content Theft-Deterrent Alarm - Deactivation

If you've set off your alarm by accident there are three different ways you can turn it off:

  1. Unlocking either the driver's or passenger's door with your key.

  2. Entering your Avalanche, placing your key in the ignition and starting it.

  3. Pressing the UNLOCK button on your Remote Keyless Entry Transmitter.

If none of these three options work contact your Chevrolet dealer.

You can find more information in your Owner's Manual on page 2-24. [Back Up]

Message Center - SECURITY

If you're driving and your Avalanche suddenly stalls and the word SECURITY is blinking in the Message Center the Passlock system detected a security issue (right or wrong) and disabled the fuel pump.  Do not try and restart your Avalanche while the SECURITY light is flashing, you'll only make the time longer before you can restart.  As soon as the SECURITY light stops flashing (this can take up to five minutes) restart your Avalanche.  You should notify your Chevrolet dealer as soon as possible.

You can find more information in your Owner's Manual on page 2-26. [Back Up]

Message Center - SECURITY

When you open your door the word SECURITY flashing on a yellow background in your Message Center is normal.  However if you're driving and the SECURITY message appears and stays on it means your Passlock system is not working.  Your Avalanche will run fine but it is no longer protected by the Content-Theft Deterrent Alarm or Passlock system and should be serviced by your Chevrolet dealer as soon as possible.
