The advantages are clear!  The Ford Explorer Sport Trac Choice doesn't come standard with:

  • Heated side view mirrors (safety feature)

  • Rear window defroster (safety feature)

  • Automatic headlamps (safety feature)

  • Day time running lamps (safety feature)

  • Removable hard cover water tight cargo lid ($590 option on Ford Explorer Sport Trac)

  • Perimeter exterior lighting

  • Engine hours meter

  • Compass and outside temperature indicator (part of the $935 extra Comfort Group on Ford Explorer Sport Trac)

  • Four wheel disc brakes (not even available on Explorer)

  • Midgate that converts a six passenger cab to a three passenger cab with an 8'1" long flat cargo box

  • Lockable saddle bag cargo box storage with lights and drains

  • Three dashboard mounted 12-volt outlets

  • Class IV load distributing receiver hitch with seven wire harness, 4-wire adapter, and pre-wired for trailering brakes

But there is more.

  • Ford Explorer Sport Trac comes with a 4.0 Liter V-6, a V-8 isn't available

  • Ford Explorer Sport Trac has 75 less horsepower

  • Ford Explorer Sport Trac has 85 less pound feet of torque

  • Ford Explorer Sport Trac has the same turning diameter as Avalanche even though it is 16" shorter

  • Ford Explorer Sport Trac has 2,100 pounds less towing capacity

  • Ford Explorer Sport Trac can only seat five - seating for six isn't available

  • Ford Explorer Sport Trac bed is smaller, shorter, and shallower

  • 17" wheels aren't even available on Ford Explorer Sport Trac

  • A 4.10 rear-end costs $355 extra on Ford Explorer Sport Trac, it's no charge on Avalanche

The advantage is clear!  The Chevy Avalanche beats the Ford Explorer Sport Trac with V-8 power, more towing, more horsepower, more torque, more passenger room, seating for six, more ground clearance, and more standard options including key safety features not even available with Ford.
