Thanks for allowing me in to your forum. I am from British Columbia and I am looking to purchase a 2004 Avalanche. It has 113,000 miles and has almost no rust. Only rust on it is on the chrome front bumper cover, is this normal? The other question is this truck was manufactured in Mexico, are there any specific issues I should look for with this being built in Mexico?

First of all, welcome to the site!

All Avalanches and EXTs were built in Mexico.

All I can say is, finding a 2004 with only 113,000 miles is quite the feat.

I would have to find something really wrong with that truck not to buy it.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the reply, I did buy it. I got a screaming deal on it. But the travel to get it was long.

A 2004 with barely any rust!? Now that's a nice find! (y) Welcome aboard!

I am in BC as well, in Victoria. I had an '02 and loved it so much that when the opportunity came, I updated to an '07 LT Ice Edition (Sunburst orange with black trim and Titanium interior) that had all of the LTZ options except the GM DVD Nav which is not the best anyway. Since I got this one I have never been able to bring myself to buy a newer truck. Mine has 182k and is still going strong. Had all of the engine updates done by the dealer while it was still under warranty and it does not consume oil. Treat it well and it will last quite nicely. I also updated the stereo to a Kenwood DNX571EX because Kenwood uses Garmin GPS which I prefer. I used the PAC GM31 interface to keep my steering wheel controls. Since you have the first generation the unit you buy will have to fit the 1.5 DIN opening but there are many good ones out there. I also replaced one of the 12V cigar lighter plugs up front and the one in the rear of the console with USB ports. The swap is easy and the replacement USB plug is only $20 on Amazon. Other than that and a few toys like the hood deflector and side wind deflectors and some black bowties it is stock. I toyed with the idea of a 2013 EXT a couple of times but could not convince myself to spend 10's of thousands for basically a badge swap and the slightly bigger engine and the more exotic dash. Check out the driver's seat cushion. If the foam is sagging on the side bolster you will get a crack on the side leatherette of the seat eventually. I replaced mine about three years ago and redid the seat covers on the bottoms all around, as the backs don't really wear much. One other thing to watch for is the rear removable window above the midgate. Eventually it will develop a crack in the plastic on one of the bottom corners from expansion and contraction. Rather than buy a new one, I simply cleaned up the plastic a bit with a rotary tool and used JB Weld to fill in the crack, then sanded it down flush and used black refinishing liquid to mask the repair. It's the same stuff I used on the black plastic tonneau and sail panels and works like a charm to restore the finish. Good luck with your new purchase and welcome to the club!

That's a nice find. Look forward to seeing what you do with the stereo.
