There are many threads about door handle issues and whether to repair or replace. Most posters complain about poor design and blame GM.
Those in the repair side of issue usually take door panel off and glue the broken parts back together some with a homemade backing plate of metal or plastic to give area more strength. Others just replace with factory parts.
After either way of fixing things I have always advised training yourself and you passengers of a different way to climb in or close the door. I learned since my 1980 Corvette which also had a poor design door handle that you lower the window and grab top of door to pull close. It also can be done on entry of an AV to lessen chance of damage. Also on driver side the steering wheel can be used as a grab handle to climb in.
I know some may talk of damage to door hinge or steering wheel but I guarantee you my family members and myself are very heavy and we have not had a door or steering wheel breakage in 40 plus years of driving Corvettes, Suburbans and AVs.
