What did you do to your Avalanche today?

Installed weathertech floor liners and side window deflectors, replaced all the front bulbs with LED's and realigned the beam height to be nice to others.
Put in a new stereo and vinyl wrapped the interior trim pieces in carbon fiber cause I really dislike the wood look. What a busy day but worth it.

Cringed at the thought of seeing my AV sitting in the driveway. I just bought my wife a new car and the AV that has spend it's life in a garage at work and at home is now sitting outside, Ugh. I'm not sure its fair letting this go on. I may have to find it a new home or move out? Decisions, decisions.

Wished my 02 a belated birthday. She hit 20 years old on November 1. Got 158K miles. Then I pulled the front wheels and lubed the front disk caliper pins trying to eliminate a brake pulsing sensation. Although it was not the problem, the surface rust on the pins told me it was needed. Looks like the driver's side rotor has a slight wrap. Time for a new pair dang it.

Changed the MAF sensor this weekend apparently, it needed a couple of cycles to clear the code. I tried cleaning the ground wires for the ABS, getting a code, but that didn't help.

Could be the ABS module needs the solder joints touched up, or a wheel speed sensor could be plugged with shavings? If its the sensor, wheel hub replacement is going to be next.

The wrap turned out great I like it.

2004 Avy z71. My 4wd system stopped working then started working again. It snowed 2 inch this morning so I pulled out of the driveway and hit the button, it worked great all the way to work, hit it back to 2wd as I pulled in to park. Got back in and no lights on the 4wd buttons at all. Did some errands and they came back on at Napa after priced out an Actuator $195. Topped up the front end a couple weeks ago but it looked like it should get changed soon. Do you think its Actuator or what else? Fuse was good. Any good threads you Know? At least the snow melted for now. I didn't try back to 4wd yet but I think it will probably do the same thing.

I'd check the ground wire on the actuator.. I had an 02 Explorer, the 4WD would not engage, I looked underneath, the ground wire was rusted thru.. A new (scrap wire) 1/2 hour of my life and it still worked >5 years, then I gave it to a relative last Christmas.

Installed new front wheel bearing hubs, rotors and brake pads on the Avalanche.

Lubed the front suspension.

The pads required a little custom grinding on the ears to slide perfectly like I like.

That process took a little while, but all of the new pads slide better than they did right out of the box.

The old wheel bearings were worse than I expected.

Ever since I bought this truck back in March 2020, I sometimes heard a bit of what I thought was tire noise from the new A/T tires that came with the truck.

The noise really didn't get any worse in the past 20K miles and any time I had the front end up in the air, I did not detect any unusual bearing noise or looseness in the front tires when I tested them.

Once I had the brake gear off of the truck and I spun the hub by hand, the bearings felt like they were full of sand.

Surprisingly, they were fairly smooth with not much play in them, but the bearings were obviously shot.

So now, everything is fitted, torqued and thread locked and caliper grease is applied as required.

Hopefully, I did the job correctly and the repairs will last quite a while.

Two days down on the ground messing with this is tough on this old body and I am feeling it today.

I'm getting too old for this nonsense.

Installed a front dashcam and hardwired it to fuse #1 which was for the rear seat, which was interesting cause what does the rear seat need power for?

Removed the roof rack cause I'll never use it. Installed LED backup lights and ordered a different stereo with a larger screen cause my old eyes can't see the small one that I just put in. Very thankful of Crutchfield's return policy.

Also removed the stupid dealer installed KARR Alarm garbage. (someone else's alarm but that's what it was)

I checked the grounds. Found 1 missing from firewall to hood. Replaced it. The rest of the grounds I could find seemed fine. Snowed again 4 inch and the 4wd worked. Leaving it on cuz I'm afraid it will quit again lol and its pretty slippery roads anyway after another 4 inches of snow thru the day. The Avy handled great in 4wd and it was fun drifting and fish tailing when I could and she'd straighten right out.

That hood to firewall ground seems to be a critical ground that doesn't "seem" like it would be. When mine was broken about 1.5 years ago, the airbag service light came on, fixed the ground and the light has been off since (of course I'm sure I just screwed my self by mentioning this).

I wanted to follow up on my previous post concerning the new wheel bearing hubs and front brakes.

Definitely the right thing to do.

The ride is much smoother and quieter now.

Very much worth my efforts.

Pulled the Av's nose into the garage, (20 degrees and snowing outside) and changed the oil & filter.. Since it has the Z71 pkg, underneath there are plenty of skid plates. These skid plates protect the components from just about everything, including me....

This required me to jack it up a little to fit my (old & getting fat) body underneath. With Kayaks stored for the winter and hanging overhead, I could not open the hood fully, so to refill the oil I had to use a chunk of wood to hold the hood partway open.

Since the 5.3l is essentially a SBC, the oil filter mounts vertically and I used the "ole" Corvette dude trick, of filling the oil filter before installing it..

The comedy :D to me is the old girl has over 180K on her, < 1K are mine.. I put in 6qts Mobil 1 (hi mileage) and did the pre-fill the oil filter trick to limit wear and prolong engine life.. Who knows how she was treated for the last 17 years..

BELIEVE-IT-OR-NOT!!!!! Yesterday (Thursday, two days after my above post)...THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON!!!!!

Lesson to learn: DO NOT MESS WITH MURPHY!!!!!!

Unbelievable. I'll let you all know what "it" is once I decide to figure "it" out.

Good news, seems that my truck (as was the case with my 1994 K1500 FL truck) likes warm weather. Today it was nice and warm, +-65 and magically the air bag lite is off :) For some reason, I had a feeling that somehow "it" was related to the weather dropping below 40. However, before starting the truck, I did open the hood, checked the oil and I did check and wiggle the hood to firewall ground as my first t&r item. Maybe it was feeling neglected and needed a wiggle ;-). It's getting cold again tomorrow so we will see if the fun begins again. If yes, I guess I'll double check the ground and the plug under the seat, clean it put a little dielectric grease and see how it goes.

My 4wd is working, although I think new hubs are on the list, and now the check engine light is out (again) and I pick up another radio station I didn't have from neighbor town  classic rock all day

its weird how often i see people have issues on here that get traced back to that ground from hood to firewall, mine was un attached for several months after i bought it, and it produced no issues. i did fix it though, as a preventative measure. i guess i was just lucky.
