As title suggest I was looking at getting a new starting battery for my avy from Rock Auto.

Local battery prices are around $160 for Normal Lead Acid battery & $215 for AGM battery (both price after Tax and Core returned)

But checking Rock Auto they have a few nice brands some I never heard of but the
Exide AGM for $183 (Tax & ground shipping included)

2002 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE 1500 5.3L V8 Battery | RockAuto

My fear is where do I go if they fail within Warranty?
R do I have to Ship it back to Rock Auto? Crazy $$$

What do I do with old battery take to an autoparts store or local scrap yard? PIA

So am I that cheap to save about $30?

What would you do?
Any experience buying battery online?

Not from Rock Auto, but I did but a battery for my Bimmer from Summit Racing. Easy/peasy. They didn't even have a core charge which I found odd. I took the old battery to Batteries Plus expecting some coin but got none. We have a metal recycler about ten minutes away which is where I should have taken it as they would have given some $$$ for it. I haven't had a warranty issue with it so I don't know what to say on that front.

I went that route since it's not super easy to source a battery for the Bimmer locally. I'd go for it.

I just get mine from AutoZone. 4 year warranty and it lasts about 3 years here in AZ. When it dies from the heat, I just go get another one for 50% off.

I always go with batteries plus, if you use the buy online pick up in store option you will get free shipping and 10% off.

They also charge 18 bucks core charge but you get that back when you pick it up.

Oh yeah they also have mail in rebates on some batteries sometimes. You know me and batteries the bigger the better.

If you have a problem you return to the store you picked it up from

I had never considered Batteries+ before, but a quick look show a good selection and decent pricing.

I will need to remember them on my next go-around.

Thanks!

FYI, There are only three battery manufactures in the USA, Exide is one and I use to know the other two but age has me forgetting things.
So not quite a monopoly it's close. what's in a name.

....don't be cheap hahaha

I like to think no matter where you go, it will last

Actually it is worst than ya think Exide was in bankruptcy this summer and sold

I remember Johnson Controls was another one, but they did the same thing.

I think EnerSys was the last one, They make X2 power, Northstar and Odyssey

I've owned a 2002 for 10 years and when I first got it I installed a Optima it lasted 10 years, now 1 year ago I picked up a 2005 Av and immediately installed an Opitma again, I love these batteries!

I ordered battery last week from Rock Auto Saved a ton over local.
Went EXIDE AGM they had and used my yearly discount of 5% which seems everyone can use.

Delivered via ground
Man I forget how heavy batteries are,

Swapped out and she starts up much better. The old one was probably around 8-10 years old

I still have old battery and thinking of taking to local recycler for a few bucks or may drop off at Wal-mart....

Anyone want and old 78 Auto Zone Platinum AGM battery? fits 2002-2006 avys...

Come on by and take it.

Summary:
Do not be afraid of buying battery online from Rock Auto

Yeah, the email I got from Rock Auto with the discount specifically said to share with family and friends. (y)

Consumer Reports ranked this battery second best. 1st was about 150 more and was only 1st by a couple of points. They recommended the Interstate MTX 48/H6. Suggested retail is 185, I bought mine for 169.
Complete replacement for 36 months.

I don't often trust consumer reports as there have been a number of reviews and videos in the past with questionable opinions and testing criteria, though I'm not sure how they could screw up battery testing. Their pressure washer video spent more time focusing on hyper safety than anything else for example.

This project farm video was rather interesting, comparing how different brands compared (both lead acid and AGM for an identical application) to show how their performances differed. Came down to manufacturing companies, not a big surprise, but it was interesting to see how AGM's competed. It's missing long term, end of life testing obviously, though that again can just get tossed in with brands once you make those comparisons.
