What did you do to your Avalanche today?

Put the trickle charger back on my avy ... as it has sat a few months since last driven.
Catching up on a few things and waiting for Fall before back onto outside projects and HD runs.

PS these things are worth the price if you figure a new battery is $100+ and can die within a year or so if not used and left to bleed off in your truck.... Having this Trickle keeps her tip top and should last a long time....

Driver stuff day. Replaced the shifter to fix the tow haul broken wire.
Pulled the cluster to resolder the resistors for the gear indicator window.
Changed out the driver seat controls to a unit that isn’t as broken.
Resistor pic is from a fubar donor cluster. Lost one of them little $;&&;& at one point….

Motorcycle batteries without trickle charger last about 1-1.5 years. With trickle charger 6-8 years. Well worth the $28 (now $40) Battery Tender Junior.

Yesterday I removed an old Optima yellow top deep cycle battery that is 10 years old and still working. I then moved the Odyssey primary battery into the spot the Optima had as an auxiliary. I then put a new Odyssey battery into the primary spot.

Tomorrow, I charge the new Odyssey before connecting everything back up.

Next project: This Fall installing a RedArc trailer brake controller and dual battery setup.

Did a front and rear differential fluid change on her. Probably the first one, since I've put on 10K miles and at 105K now and the oil was very black. If so, the factory fill was a quart less than the spec. Drove about 10 miles out of town to warm them up some before draining. I got the listed 2.75 quart in the rear before it started coming back at me. Amzoil 75/110 Syn in the rear with a new cover and OEM gasket.
I'm not a professional mechanic but I think the diff is in good shape and better protected for towing.

Over the weekend, I tried to roll down the window on the rear-passenger wide and heard a grinding noise. When I tried to roll the window back up......

Nothing. I've already ordered and picked up a Dorman window regulator. At least it happened a couple of miles away from home and not in mainland Mexico.

I used the Cerkote trim restore and the Cerakote headlight restore products this weekend. The trim restore on the cladding and bed covers look AMAZING!!! But I did not take before and after photos. I did however take before and after pics of the ceramic headlight restore. they honestly look like brand new lenses, and they claim they will never haze over like lenses do, time will tell if that holds to be true. But for now, they look great, and I'm happy!

The headlight kit is a 3 step process, after step 1 they look pretty good. after step 2 I was really re-evaluating if I had made a wise choice, but step 3 brings the process to a close and this is what I'm left with.

The Navigation/DVD screen went black & touch screen was unresponsive and did not come back on for a full day of running errands.. Luckily pulling the battery negative cable for a few minutes brought it back to life, but I fear it'll go out again soon...

Well done.

Using Safelite to do this job is not a bad thing.

However, when working to repair both of my passenger side windows on my 2003 Avalanche, I opted to replace both passenger side regulators.

This is not too bad of a job.

I purchased the ACDelco regulator assemblies that include everything I needed to get the job done.

Since the repair, it is painfully obvious that both of the driver side windows are also showing their age.

Replacing both driver side regulators is on my to-do list.

Decided it was time to clean up my winter rims since time to replace tires and the salt has done a number on the clear coat over the years. Here is before and after.

#1 controls the front light bars. Up is on, down they turn on/off with the high beams
#2 up is fuel transfer from secondary tank to the main. Down is rear light bars on
#3 is the rear camera on/override

Excellent job! Looks like new.
What did you use to strip and then what did you use to coat?
I need to do mine, they are real bad.
Thanks.

I got Klean-Strip Premium Stripper from walmart to remove what clear coat was left. I then used the cheap Harbor Freight sand blast gun to get the corrosion off. Then sprayed with self etch primer. Wanted to use Duplicolor charcoal wheel paint since I had used that in the past on my daughters jeep wheels, but nobody had any in stock near me. So I picked up some Krylon Dark Metallic instead because the cap of the can looked close to the Duplicolor. It came out darker than the Duplicolor wheel paint but I like it. I used satin black on the back and on the edges of the holes. Used Duplicolor Clear wheel paint to clear coat it all. Waiting for full cure and will ceramic coat them.

Replaced the ALC compressor. Planned on doing it next spring if it lasted that long...it didn't and quit running after a trip with a camper and a lot of weight in the bed. Was going to go with the Arnott pump but saw a post here recommending a Dorman OE Fix unit that was an upgrade with more of the rubber shield around the unit, maybe a better pump and with new hoses and air lines at the pump and to the left shock. Purchased on Amazon and with the Prime discount thing going on two days ago, it was at an even better price for $165. Now it doesn't sound like a can being vigorously shaken with a few stones in it! It appears to have taken some abuse from that winter salt . There was also a leak at the old pump which would bleed down the shocks in 15 minutes after shutting the truck off. Holding air for 8 hrs. so far!

Been chasing an elusive "wobble" sound and slight vibration. Replaced the rear drive shaft universal joints, as there was some oil seepage from the transfer case. Typically this is caused by a vibration in the drive shaft, therefore...new universal joints. No joy. I'm almost positive its internal to the transfer case. The one I have is under warrenty, but still need to pay shipping and installation. Ugh..was trying to do the cheap things first. Put new hubs and CV axles in earlier this year.

When I bought the Avalanche the factory radio was intermittent.. on and off at random times....

I finally figured out it looks like some of the solder joints on the radio end have issues inside.. I used tie wrap to put tension on the connector to keep it working .. Worked mostly, but sometimes the clock would reset it self.. And only the front drivers door speaker worked..

It got to be annoying, it would be dead, then hit a bump it would turn on and BAM I about jump out of my seat.

After about a year of working 90% of the time I noticed, Amazon had a "sale" (the same radio I put in the F150) for $35, so I got it.

Installation was pretty straight forward and it works good.. It is supposed to be able to use the 'factory' steering wheel buttons, but I haven't figured out how to make that work, but it does come with a steering wheel remote.. that works fine.. It comes with a B/U camera that I have not installed yet (works great displaying the camera I already had in the F150)

Now both front speakers work, (sounds alot better) but neither of the rear speakers work.. not worth attacking anytime soon.avy radio.jpg

Post a picture at night when you have time, I have been looking for those lights.
I decided to add ditch lights to the Av today. Quick install. The mounts, lights, and wiring harness was under 100 bucks and only took about 2 hours start to finish to get done.

Oops I just noticed your post count, I think you'll need a few more until you can post pics.

yeah i was away from the site for years and just tried to log back in the other night. for some reason.....my count went back to zero. check out my joined date.

But...you can see the same lights I have by watching a youtube video...that's what gave me the idea to add them:
I ordered the lights, mounts, and wiring harness from amazon. The only small issue I have is that I have to tilt the light forward to raise the hood so it doesn't hit the radio antenna when the hood is up. Its not an issue at all though, easy to do. I went with amber because I foresee using them when on forest and dirt roads in bad weather (hunting season, snow, fog etc) I ran down a road out of town and they definitely light up the ditches. The mounts I have are different from the ones in the video. I saw the ones I got on sale for 10 bucks and went with that.
Links to each item if your interested:
$93 dollars total so I think it was worth it.
