2003 z71 1500 avalanche.
No specific door is indicated. where are the sensors I should be checking?? Does the tailgate or mid gate have sensors I couldn’t find? I searched the forum prior to posting with no luck. I can’t set the alarm or use dome lights without the alarm going off sooner or later.

First you must be one of the "strong silent types" since you joined in 2015 and this is your first post. :D

What is telling you "rear access open" , a light, display on dash or some form of audio? There are no sensors on the midgate or tailgate to set off an alarm. The doors on the other hand will show up on your DIC display. I don't know exactly where the door sensors are located though, sorry.

If you have some aftermarket alarm system they may have put a sensor on the tailgate or midgate though to increase security of the cab.

If you don't have an owners manual the link here in our resources section may help you some, the DIC info is section 3 page 61 and 62 dealing with door notices and resetting the dic. (don't forget to click on the green download button in link to see the manual.)

I’ll take that as a compliment. I usually find my answers from others and make the repair. It’s unusual to come across an issue on this old of a vehicle that hasn’t been dealt with already. To answer the question, upon starting, the DIC reads “rear access open”. As far as I know, there is no after market alarm installed, no extra sensors.

BCM is acting up... By chance was it fixed/replaced in the past?

The rear access message is for the rear glass or liftgate on a tahoe/suburban, no such thing on the Avy. Might check your main grounds, and the ground(s) at the BCM harness, if you're lucky it's just resistance in the circuit.

I didn't watch the whole thing, but this video might give you an idea of where to start and/or bypass that check on the BCM
Good luck!

Thanks for your input. I have watched this video, I do not have a pink wire on that connector.
Im not sure if the BCM has been worked on in the past.
Could you elaborate on “main grounds” and bcm harness grounds please. I’ve reworked the ground under the drivers side door on the rail. What else can I do? Should I go ahead and WD40 all the bcm plugs?

I don't have the wiring diagrams for the first gen, but this video seems to highlight the main ground locations:

You can test resistance on each ground, plus the grounds on the BCM to measure if there is an issue. But if you can get a hold of the wiring diagram we could figure out exactly which main-ground the BCM uses.

And yes if it were me I would clean the contacts on the BCM harness with Electronic Cleaner spray, something like this from CRC or other manufacturer:

BCM wiring pinouts diagram found! I should've known it was already on this site!

BTW, I'm just taking a shot in the dark here about the grounds being a possible issue, but I'd bet a dollar that is part of the diagnostic steps in the service manual
