Hey guys i uave an 02 avy base model in 2wd. Was wondering if anyones done a 4wd conversion to the first gens? Ive herad suburban parts fit? Is it just suburbans or will silverado and tahoe parts fit mine? Also completly unrelated how do I post pics on here?😂

Depends on the part...
AVY shares frame with burb.

The 2002 AV has a one year only electrical system so may have some problems doing a conversion if the 4wd parts are not 2002 as well.
I have read of some members simplifying things and changing a 4wd to 2wd to save on maintenance and improve mpg. I would guess that most members would just buy a 4wd AV and not spend the money or time on converting a 2wd.

a 2wd to 4wd conversion would require the installation of the following:

  1. remove the existing driveshaft
  2. Buy and install the front differential, additional mounting hardware might be required.
  3. Buy and install the transfer case. additional mounting hardware might be required.
  4. Buy and install the new front drive shaft
  5. Buy and install the transmission to transfer case driveshaft
  6. Buy and install the transfer case to rear differential driveshaft
  7. Buy and Install the front CV shafts.
  8. Buy and replace both front wheel hub assemblies completely
  9. Buy and Install the electrical harnesses for the front differential and transfer case.
  10. install the 4wd shift button module along with it's harness connection.
  11. change all fluids if necessary if using used parts.
So yeah.. like Vaeagleav says, stick to a 4wd model if you want it. It's a lot easier to remove 4wd capabilities. The only way you'd do a conversion economically is to find a junk 2002 at auction and use it for parts yourself. Paying labor is going to cost you a ton.

All that 'must' really be done for the reverse is removing the front cv joints and put 2wd wheel hubs into it. Removing the transfer case and putting a 2wd driveshaft in is a step further if you dont want to maintain the transfer case. And you could remove the front diff for weight and to keep it from getting rusty.

I have an 02' AV Z71...I am considering converting mine to a 2wd. Just not sure exactly what has to be done to accomplish this??

Seems like you should contact original poster and just swap AVs would be cheapest and easiest for you both to do and not hurt resale value of each other...:D
