I have to take a peek at my in-op washer bottle/pump for wipers. It appears the battery will have to come out.

Will disconnecting the battery for some time screw up the computer stuff once I re-connect the battery back in?

It will not hurt to remove the battery.

I took the battery tray out and the front of the fender liner in the wheel well.

You might be able to turn the tire far enough, but I just put the truck on a jack stand and removed the tire.

Try to not flex the plastic water lines too much.

They are old and brittle.

My local parts store had replacements, thank goodness.

They also carried just the pump and the bottle.

A couple of those mounting bolts might make you cuss a little.

Thanks, yeah, it's not holding fluid so it's either a low cracked hose, the pump or the bottle itself..or all friggin three.

I have replaced several over the years.

Even though I try to maintain a good low temp mixture, I have had several of the pumps come up cracked.

I always assume from freezing.

If you have an OEM radio in your 2002 Av, disconnecting the battery will probably lock the radio.
Once power is reconnected, you will have to know the password to unlock the radio.
Usually the password is set by the original owner, then forgotten.

It is factory, bummer.

What a bummer.

So, this happens anytime someone's battery wears out and dies and a new battery is installed?

I wouldn't be too happy about that.

You can't always plan on when a battery is going to up and die on you.

Didn't I read somewhere a while back that there was an automated phone number you could call to get some unlock code from GM for those older radios?

I do not know if that would even work or not.

I know my 2003 and 2004 had to have the truck's VIN installed into the radio using a Tech2 scanner if the radio was moved to a different truck.

Seems like a lot of trouble to go through for a not too good a radio.

They can't even keep the truck from being stolen so why go to all that just for the radio.

agree, I'll prolly just pop in a cheap aftermarket...if need be.

See owner's manual pages 3-17, 3-18 and 3-19

Theft-Deterrent Feature
THEFTLOCK is designed to discourage theft of your radio. It works by using a secret code to disable all radio
functions whenever battery power is removed. The THEFTLOCK feature for the radio may be used or
ignored. If ignored, the system plays normally and the radio is not protected by the feature. If THEFTLOCK
is activated, your radio will not operate if stolen. When THEFTLOCK is activated, the radio will display
LOC to indicate a locked condition anytime battery power has been interrupted. If your battery loses power
for any reason, you must unlock the radio with the secret code before it will operate.

Perhaps your THEFTLOCK was never activated?
When activated, the LED indicator by the volume control will begin flashing when the ignition is turned off.
If you lose or forget your code, contact your dealer.

sometimes it is the last4 digits of VIN as dealers set it on the lot when they got trucks back in 2002

The automated phone number including the required dealer # is described in this youtube video. The replies to the video seem to indicate this method is still working.

kirkdc, does your LED indicator near the volume control flash when you turn the ignition off? If no, the theftlock likely isn't activated. Even if it is activated, I think you can bypass using the youtube linked above.

Good luck!

Wow, I really got his thread off topic. :offtopic:
The code has only 2000 possibilities, 000-1999. o_O
