I'm in the process of buying a new 03 met. gray z66 AV.
But during the 24 hour test drive the salesman and I notice a sound when making slow moving right turns and going over driveway aprons. I told the dealer that I wouldn't take the car unless its noise free. They have been trying to find the problem for one week. They discovered it was a closed box that dealt with the sterring. The part would take one day to weeks to be sent to the dealership. They told me to find another vehicle. I searched in GM Buy power for over a week to find the car I wanted was to far or sold. When I went to disolve the deal the manager came out to make a deal. They showed me the same vehicle I had in a 4x2 in a 4x4. Its sitting in my driveway. I like the way it drives on the road better than the Z66. Maybe this was the way it was meant to be. Plus it has sea shell shaped
17" chome wheels. Now on to the Pioneer dvd Gps and Viper Gps System.

Hmmm, I have over 15,000 on my Z66 and no noise yet!

Do you think I should still get the vehicle? Is this a normal AV problem?
:C: ??? :E:

Perhaps you should ask the Dealer to let you test drive one or two different Z66 on their lot to see if they make the same noise. Even if they don't have the options that you like, you'll be able to see if the noise is repeatable in other AVs and if you can make it repeat the noise even in the one that you DO want you could perhaps help the dealer find what you're describing.

They called me today to tell me that the problem was the air bag rubbing in the steering wheel. I pick up my new 03 Av on Thursday, finally. ;)
Whats the first mod that i should do?

CONGRATS HAVALANCHE!!!!

Go for the Amber DRL's mod. It's an easy inexpensive mod and it kinda signify's your association with the club. There are a few members out there without them I'm sure, but most times the ambers mean your a member. You can also upgrade your fogs and your headlights. Check out the quick reference list in the mods and accessories forum.

Good luck, and welcome!!!

Say.. how about a TXAvy's "rack-over-the-covers" for your first mod. :) :)

Thanks for the plug. I don't want to spam you guys with advertising. If you're curious though you can check the link in my Sig.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but this situation may be re-visited in the future if you get that specific truck. I doubt it was the airbag, be sure to drive that baby again before you sign on the dotted line. Don't get me wrong, DO sign on the dotted line for some Av because with the exception of this annoying problem, it is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned.

I developed the same sound you are discussing at about 4K. It was very faint and only on backing out of the driveway or parking space at very slow speeds with a full hard right or left turn of the steering wheel. It got louder and louder over time. I now have 9K on it. It was in for service last week while I went on vacation and they said it was fixed, I can'd find my receipt right now but I think it was some bushings or something that were replaced. The sound is still there and now I here it at higher speeds like and taking corners or pulling into parking spots without having the wheel at a full hard turn. It will be back to the service guys as soon as I can make some time to be without it. :6:

Any others out there who can point to a previous thread about this issue and any TSB's before I trek it back in for service would be greatly appreciated. (y)

Bad news,
The Dealer called me Thursday and said to look for a new AV the air bag fix wasn't it. So I'm back in the computer looking for a new 03 Av Gray, Black or pewter.
Boy its been two weeks. I saw one in VA., I have to wait till Monday to see if they can DX it from that dealer. I live in Md. I hope this one is okay. :E: :C: :( ???

Glad they were at least honest with you. You'll find what you're looking for I'm sure. Keep digging.

Hey, I've got the same similiar noise. Last time I heard it was replacing the bushings. Anyone remember the TSB# or what thread it was on? ??? I'm trying to find it.
Thanks.
