My wife's '04 Avalanche needs the headliner re-done, drooping in several spots.

I have done a couple of the older ones like my '68, '75, and '87 Chevy's but when I look at this '04 looks like quite a bit more work!

First of all this has the moonroof and there are quite a few spots that look like they would be a real PITA to get apart and then back together. Alos looks like the easiest way to get it out of the interior would be to take the back window out and take it out that way?

Any tips if you have done this before would be greatly appreciated.

Also would like to know if there are any suppliers for the "CORRECT" material.

I had the same issue on my 2004 but it was the part that covers the sunroof. I must say it was kind of a pain to do. I had to remove the entire sunroof glass and pull it from the top. The difficult part for me was re-installing it. You have to make sure it all lines up and closes with the rear part up very slightly. If I had to do it again I would probably just get it done at an auto upholstery shop

Thanks for the info, the whole job looks to be a PITA. The sunroof cover does not seem to have any issues but I was planning to do that as well that way the entire headliner will be new.

Sounds good. Based on your experience you should have no problem.
For me it was more like a follow YouTube tutorial.
Keep us posted.

What happens to these headliners is the cloth separates from the foam backing, like vinyl does on vinyl seats, the cloth has a thin foam backing and it in turn is glued to a stiff foam board. The board gets brittle with age; so getting it in and out w?o fubars is pretty hard. What I did was after the head liner assembly was out I peeled the cloth of the whole foam board, used a stiff scrub brush (about 12" long) and removed the glue and the foam (that used to be on the back of the cloth) that was stuck to the board. then I test fit the new cloth I got at Pep Boys (they no longer sell it) the I folded back half the cloth, used 3M spray glue (made for automotive work) and sprays the new cloth and board. I then slowly smoothed the cloth back over the board using the scrub brush to smooth the cloth out (use a light touch) then I did the other half, it looked GREAT! Maybe JC Whitney (or what ever ther new name it) has it. You can check upholstery shops and on line suppliers for it was well.

Autozone carries headliner material, go to the web site and search for headliner. Different kits are different sizes.
