What are you using for a front plate mounting bracket?
Other than bending the plate by direct bolt on. I did a search but did not really find an answer.

BTW - nice forum

On my previous trucks I used heavy clear tape on the bumper then bolted the plate over it with a slight bend in it. On the Av right now I've got the plastic Dealers Plate on behind it to keep it off the bumper. The plan is to get a couple plastic spacers to put behind hit so it will mount without a bend and not be in direct contact with the bumper. Some day.

Your local autosupply (AutoZone, Pep Boys, O'Reilly's etc.) house will have a plastic universal bracket that is shaped like an elongated H. I cut off the lower half and used the top half as a spacer that rides just above the bump out in the bumper. Worked really well. You might have to do some shaping, but a sharp knife and some sandpaper works without a problem. I also used a locking plate frame to protect the edge around my plate and hide the bracket.

Hope that helps

When you got your AV it should have had a bracket from the factory with it....like the new silverado's do

Thanks, all good ideas. (y)

I thought so but never saw it, before make ready, in the bags of stuff that came with the truck. Dealer may still have it. They are kind of strange but very service oriented and want to mount the plates for me when they come in.

Not sure that I like the stocker anyway. Looks weak and just bounces against the bumber.

Not 100% sure, but I think this was deleted for 2004. If someone knows for sure please post.

Well this is 100% for sure. Manufactures are required to supply front plate mounting hardware for vehicles in which states require front license plates.

Cannot just be deleted cause they don't want to supply them. Also the term hardware does not necessarily mean a bracket. If the install can be performed to that states visability requirements with "well nuts" and bolts...so be it.

The bottom line here is if you do the install yourself or let your dealer do it as he apparently wants to...the parts required to complete the install properly are a legal requirement for chevy...if your state requires front plates.

They just have to supply a way to mount a tag, not necessarily a bracket. Two holes and a couple of screws meets that requirement

Yeah like what we both said!!!

By the way in some states they require a 4 hole system...not just the uppers...hence a bracket is required. If I remember Virginia is one of those states. Maybe a Va. member could chime in (my memory is from years 1972+-).

Don't know about VA., but in Texas you'd better have a front plate on the truck or they will ticket ya'.

W/O bracket does not look too good curved around the bumper.

I had the same look on a '99 GMC, but did'nt change it.

But for my AV, I found a bracket at Walmart for 6 bucks that satisfied me.

You could add front license plate bracket to the list of mods
for the AV. :B: :D

First Post, brought my '04 Sport Red Metalic AV home yesterday.

It has a front license bracket on it, and they don't require them here in Arkansas. I'll check the mounting of it when I go back out and report.
