About a year ago I purchased an 07 avalanche. I love the truck but two months after purchase it developed the common lifter tick. I got very loud very quickly. I bought a $1700 high performance lifter kit and had a mechanic install and do the dod delete (i think thats what it’s called) stops it from collapsing the lifters and it stays running in 8 cylinders. I also had him rebuild the whole too half of the motor.
The truck ran beautiful for about a hour after i got it back. Then the lifter noise came back, but not nearly as loud as before. But from then on the service traction control light comes on intermittently and when this happens its slams into gear when shifting. And the engine light comes on. If you disconnect the battery it fixes the problem for a day or two then it comes back…
Now to problem two….
Yesterday I borrowed my truck to a friend and when i got it back the service charging system light was on and meter was reading about 12 volts.
I tried to make it home but had to have it jumped once to make it home. I put a battery charger on it all night so I could drive it to my friends house in the morning to see what is going on. Half way there the alternator kicked on and started charging normally and it passed all standard tests we did. I left to go home and about a mile down the road it started discharging again and was running off the battery. I made it about 13 miles and it ran the battery completely dead. I was coasting down the road looking for a place to stop and suddenly the truck started on it’s own and was once again charging normally!! The battery and alternator pass every test and is now running fine but I’m scared to take it out of town!!
What could possibly cause this crazy charging issue??
