I recently purchased a 2007 LT Avalanche with the heavy tow package. Does this come with a transmission cooler? I tow a 4,000 lb boat and want to keep this vehicle a while.

2007 LT
5.3 Engine
Rear Axle 3.73
Locking Rear Diff
4X4

Thanks!

No it does not, the transmission cooler only came with the 4.10 Rear Axle till the 6 speed transmission came out.

I have an 07 LTZ - how can I find out what my gear ratio is?  And, now that I'm towing a heavy camper - I'm guessing I don't have a transmission cooler either - so are they easy to install, or something a shop should really do?

Not that hard to do, if you're mechanically inclined.
especially since they make one to fit from the factory.
Even after market wouldn't be too hard.

I have an '08 LTZ with 5.3 flex fuel engine and 4 spd auto trans. It has 3:73 gears, and if your truck is equipped the same way , it probably has the same gears.  You could just call the dealership to find out for sure.  How heavy is your camper?  I am looking at a 26' travel trailer that weighs about 6,100 lbs empty.  The truck does not have an aux trans cooler, but GM sells one for under a hundred bux (I have already looked into it).  At my dealership, the total will be $250.00 -$300.00 with installation.  My tranny got up to over 200 degrees towing a 2,000 lb pop up, so I figure the cooler is necessary for towing anything heavier.

Post your results, I would like to know how you turn out! :D

I watched a Diy video on YouTube. Didn't look bad at all to install. ✌️

Not sure you really need a transmission cooler unless trailer near max limit & spending alot of time on hills/mountains.
My 07 4x4 LT has the 4L60E transmission I recently changed torque converter out. There is cooling lines running front radiator should help keep cooling/ I added a b&m deep pan for mostly drain plug.
But more fluid volume can help with lower temperatures, mine hasn't overhead towing it's gotten 220 225 I believe highest I seen then it pumps fluid to front as it seemed to climb & drop back & forth when I was on large long incline freeway.

Wanted to clarify my post, transmission coolers are really adding more cooling area to the original design.
all our avalanches have transmission fluid pumping forward to radiator to be cooled when it needs it. Depending on type cooler you buy they give fluid much more surface area for heat reduction outside the radiator designed cooling system.
I haven't checked on products for these avalanches but I'd get one that combines current radiator I'd guess some are completely separate maybe even with extra fans.
