Hey guys I got a bit of a lifter tick today, I have no desire to get my lifters repaired so I’d like to delete them completely. Does anyone have any recommendations for what cam/kit I should buy? What other mods can I do? I’d like to make it as fast and powerful as I can for being a tank. And yes I don’t want to hear it with the oil being low and such I know it’s a lifter tick and it’s made it to 170k it needs new ones.

The smart*ss answer is that engine won't run without lifters. But I assume you are talking about deleting AFM lifters and replacing them with normal ones.

Horsepower is a function of torque and rpm. A typical cam change by itself pretty much only shifts the the same torque curve to a higher RPM. This give more horsepower up top end, but less oompfh at lower RPMS. Given that the Avalanche typically cruises at 70mph/2200 rpm in overdrive, is that really what you want?

IMHO faster and more powerful is best done with increased cubic inches or turbo/supercharger. a 5.3 is almost one HP per cubic inch in stock form. That is 60's muscle car power.

Yeah, I definitely want to do the AFM delete by replacing the cam and lifters. Is there a specific kit I should buy? also where could I find a simple turbo kit?

The old adage "there is no replacement, for displacement"

There are a number of people here who have done the afm delete and others who have done turbo or supercharger. I would wailt for them to comment.

I have a bunch of threads several years back, all under the heading of "Well the time has come" that detail my
adventure of rebuilding my original 5.3 after I had the AFM lifter fail. Went with a low end torque comp cam, headers and several
other mods as well as a full AFM delete. Engine looked great and sounded great and was for sure stronger than it had been, but my
stock 14 5.7 Hemi Ram would still eat it alive. The supercharger is the way to go. If I was faced with the same situation today I would
go that route for sure. If you want the big girl to hustle thats the way to do it.
