0W-30 in Canadian Climates

My owners manual states if you expect temps to be -20f to use 0-30. So for the last 7 years I have switched to a 0-30 full synthetic in winter. It makes it a heck of lot easier to start. I have a 2003 and I don't know what year you have.

I have used synthetic oil since the 1980's,
My experience was my car started easier in the winter (for most of my life I have lived in the Northern US) :

from the '04 (Avalanche) owners manual:

As shown in the viscosity chart, SAE 5W-30 is best
for your vehicle. However, if it is going to be 0°F
(–18°C) or above and SAE 5W-30 is not available,
you may use SAE 10W-30.

If you are in an area of extreme cold, where the
temperature falls below −20°F (−29°C), it is
recommended that you use either an SAE 5W-30
synthetic oil or an SAE 0W-30 oil. Both will provide
easier cold starting and better protection for your engine
at extremely low temperatures.
