??? I know that this subject is really touchy and everyone has there own opinion. I want to install a single sub underneath the rear seat in my ss but i need to know how much mounting depth i have for a sub box. I talked to a couple of pro installers and they said that the min mointing depth for a regular sub is about 8-9 inches. I've seen a few people mount a 10" sub but i need to know the dimensions of their boxes and finally does it sound good? I plan on keeping that factory look without changing the head unit. I just wanna add a sub and a alpine v12 amp that i have lying around. If anyone can help me out give me a shout!

thanx ss

10" subs offer enough "boom" and have a punchier feel than 12" subs. I think you will not have enough room under the seat for a 12" box. A 10" box will fit but but you will have to have the box custom made. ($$$$) Premade boxes for single 10" are inexpensive, about $35 each. You might want to try a single version of what I did.... http://community.webshots.com/user/wikiwikiwiki

With the 2 10" subs I have plenty of bass for a good sound and if I crank up the bass you can hear me commin from way far away. (I rarely turn it up like that...muhahaha)

You can also try the Stealthbox route. It will cost aroun $500 but it is well worth the money for the boom. One drawback is loosing your center console storage.

Check out the other posts in the Audio section.

I have seen some 10 inch (maybe 12's) subs with mounting depth in the 4-5 inch range. You will have to make up the volume somewhere though. Check out some of the subs at www.kicker.com for the specs. Most online audio sites and manuf. should give you the specs for their subs.

I'm in your same dilema right now :cautious:

I'm doing a complete stereo overhaul this weekend, and have yet to decide which sub route to choose.
I'm either going to do a box with 2 10's laying on the floor in the back (similar to Wiki's except 1 box instead of 2 seperate). Or else I'll put 1 10 undernieth the bench in the back.
2 10's = louder better base, at the cost of having to toss around a 60lb box to use the back seats :cautious:

went to the shop today and had a custom box measured
i'm gonna use alpine s-10's in the truck. Don't wanna have the truck pounding anymore i've been through that stage in my younger years after a 9000 dollar custom build for my rodeo i think ive had enough. When it's all done i'll post some pics about the custom work.

Where you putting the custom box?

AvSS,
Are you going with 1 or 2 tens. I'm going to put a ten on each side under the bench. I've just got to find 1 cu ft boxes that will fit under there, or else make em

zimms i'm going with 1 s-10 just to add that extra bounch that those talented sound engineers at gm couldn't figure out. As for the boxes you want well, they don't exsist  that's why i had to go to my buddy's shop and have them fabricated

ss >:D

Could you give me the dimensions for the box? Please

I've got a buddy that's good at making this kinda stuff, so we'll just make two of them to go under each side of the bench in the back.

Do you know yet if you will retain functionality of the midgate with your custom box? If you do and it turns out really good, you think your buddy is interested in making a few others? ;D
