Well I was coming back from lunch today and saw this really cool Black Z-66 AV with black painted claddng, sail and covers and a graphics package. I pulled up next to it to find out where the work had been done. The lady said Capitol Chevrolet (Nashville). So I called them a few minutes ago. The manager was out but the receptionist said that they'd painted 10 AV's here in Nashville. WOW! :eek: I was shocked, I've seen maybe 3 here, but 10! The receptionist said they'd even painted one for a Tennessee Titan :love: (I'm not telling who) that is a volunteer firefighter and did some "need firefighter related things".

I've been hoping to get most of my cladding painted and didn't know where to go. BUT NOW..! I asked her what the prices looked like. She indicated with about 18 hours of paint time, it started just over $1000. An experinced cladding painter...by now they should be pretty good at it.

Time to save the pennies. ;)

If I can find the Titan, I'll be sure to pass along a club flyer. Maybe we can get him to put a CAFCNA sticker on his helmet this year...good promo.
 
Earthquake - I live in Nashville and have seen those painted AVs...mostly still fo sale on Capitol's lot. Mine is white and the main reason I chose that color was I thought it made the cladding look best. Considered painting mine until I saw a toally white AV...let's just say it is not for me.

Welcome to the club...we should see about formig a club here in Nashville.

 
I find it hard to believe anyone could paint all that cladding correctly for $1000. Do you realize how much just the paint and flexible primer costs alone without the labor? I think the guys who are quoting 3k or so are more realistic :rolleyes:
 
Good to see the Volunteer State is well represented here! ;D I too am from Tennessee, about two hours west of Nashville, sounds like we need to get a Tennessee Cruise going soon.
After seeing the yellow "bumble-bee" Avalanche on another post, I have been thinking about a repaint myself. Maybe I need to drive up to Music City and speak to Capitol! :0:

I would agree on the painting. That quote may be labor only, and it may be to paint leaving the texture, a lot that I am not fond of. I had mine painted (not the back bumper, or the bed cover, or a small part of the front bumper) by a small shop that just does painting. Had looked over some of their work.
The cost was about 1600.00 US$ plus I bought the clips that are needed when you take the cladding off.
 
Sparky-Your AV inspired me! When I saw that pic of yours, I said "I'm doing that" :love: . I really like the look, sortof similar to the way the Navigator was done. That's what I'm looking to do. I plan to take the pics of yours in when I go and say...DO THIS.
I know that price probably does not include sanding down the cladding, but I'll find out more.

Snowlep-I'm trying to get some club flyers printed out and will start handing/posting them as soon as I can. I think TN is well represented here and maybe we could get something started here.
My wife saw that ALL white AV too :eek:. She let me know it wasn't for us either.
 
Earthquake, Thanks a lot. :) I saw the Av about 2 years before they started producing them, just knew I had to have one, and in that period had lots of time to dream. Knew what I wanted to do. The drop kit, paint and now wheels have ended up as good as I expected, or better ;D Here is what I can offer on the painting. The guy used a Siccens (?) product. They sanded the cladding (but not too much so it would not burr.) added an adhesive compound, primed, sanded, primed again, sanded, and then painted. They took off much of the cladding to paint it properly. That is why I ended up buying about 50 clips at around 3 bucks each. I have some more details I can dig out of sent e-mail files.

I'm waiting for a grille and bowtie. I will take final 2002 pictures then. I'm also going to take a picture of a stock Z-71 so I can show a start picture. Dealer has asked me to do this as well. Did not have the right camera at the time I got my truck.
 
I just got a quote form a shop in NJ that is a chevy dealer for about 3500. for everything except teh cargo covers to be painted

$3500 - That's crazy. I haven't heard of any members here paying close to that ???
 
I have a Black North Face AV and had Mine painted. It cost me around $2500. But what they do is take all the plastic off. Sand it and fill it about 2 or 3 times till it is real smooth. Then they paint it and clear coat it. So it looks real smooth and shiny just like the sheet metal. I have everything painted too. The whole front and rear bumbers, all of the sides and all of the sails...even the inside of the sails. The only thing that is grey are the dimond plate stuff on the back bumper and the bed covers. I left those grey because they get steped on and taken off and on the most so they would end up getting scratched or chiped. I had mine done at Mariahs Custom near Ft.Worth, Texas. THey did a great job and I think it looks really good.
