Anyone know if Chevy is ever planning to offer the 1500 with the big motor? Would be nice....and perform well, since it would be lighter than the 2500.

It would be nice, but I doubt that they will. Heck, at least give us the option to put the 6.0 liter in a 1/2 ton. I really want to get a hold of a 345 hp 6.0 from an escalade for my truck.

I know the press and owners are screaming for the 6.0 I don't think Chevy would put the full blown fire breathing 345 HP model under the hood - why buy the Caddie then? However the guys at Ford use to play this game all the time. They would put a 205 HP version of the old 5.0 in the T-Bird and Crown Vic, while putting the 225 HP version in the Mustang. It's all marketing.

I don't know if the General will make this move ever though. If you look on an increasing range of their product offerings the engine choices are real simple. One. However if they did put something bigger under the hood a 6.0 or a diesel would probably be the likely options. I just don't see the 8.1 in the 1500 and I'm not sure I'd want 440 plus pounds of torque going through the chassis of a 1500 anyway...

I'm inclined to believe with the SSR just around the corner....chevy wouln't make such a move....

Bring the back the hot rod...here we go!

You don't want the 8.1L without at least the 4L80E HD 14 bolt tranny - then you have the weight of the 2500.

Thanks for the info, didn't realize that the 1500 trans wouldn't be able to deal with the stress of the 8.1 Guess it's SC for me then, BTW, Gandolphxx, thanks for the previous info. on Whipple, seems like a better alternative than Vortech... I think 414 HP should be enough for most of us with a 1500...
