So today I got a few parts from Van Devere. One of them is the 15722980 Aux light switch for under the On-Star buttons. The switch appears to have 6 pins and accepts some modular connector.
Has anyone used this switch? What other parts do I need to connect to make it work? I was hoping to wire in some neon or extra lights.
Thanks,
-Dave

Check with Pendlum from JPcustoms

I'm sure he can point you in the right direction.

JP are you out there somewhere?

Check out this link for more info on it.

GM AUX LIGHT SWITCH

It is best to do a quick search before posting as you will find that most questions/answers have already been posted by others.

I hate to say it but I did do a specific search on the part number and ended up with only 1 posting that was unrelated. I know it's crazy but there is almost too much information on this site. You can spend hours searching for something that people answer in a matter of minutes. I'm not criticizing at all, I love the site. I'm not sure what can be done to organize or catalog or something, but finding the info is getting tougher and tougher. Thanks for the info though!

No luck with JP customs sounds like this is gonna turn out to be more work. Anyone have a clue what the part numbers are for the wiring harnasses for parts 15722980 & 15729517?
Thanks,
-Dave

Hi Dave,

Did you talk to Jason? He will call you back if you leave a message and is very complete with everything that I have spoken to him about.

I am looking forward to rounding up the info as I want to do this shortly, as I will be adding lights and like the factory light switches.

If i find out more I will post and I will watch for your posts as well.

Good luck!

Yep. Jason said "No, we do not sell those connectors. You might try the local dealership. They can get the pigtail that is associated with the switch."
I sent Dal a message at Van Devere, hope he can tell me what I need. I feel like such a good just assuming it would have terminals like any normal toggle or rocker switch.

Hey Dave, now that I think about it, I think I may have some of the connectors laying around left over from other projects. Let me dig them up this evening and I'll post all the info on where to get them really easily, without paying the $40 for the harness from the dealerships. I didn't think they were that expensive.

I'll post all the info this evening once I dig up the connector number.

Here is what I got back from Dal today. I'm not exactly sure what he means by 4-way or 5-way switch. The 15729517 is actually the same as the fog light switch. Which I think is really just an on/off button. It does have 4 pins for the connector, and maybe that is what he means. All I wanted to do was fill in those blank plates under the On-Star. I should have put a sticker there or something, the scope of this project increases each day. I assume as some point I'll need to wire in relays and such if I actually want to connect these switches to some kind of lights.

"hi dave, the switch 15722980 has a connector available, your cost is
22.13 each. on the other switch, 15729517, there are two styles,
a 4-way which is 16.34 and a 5-way which is 15.52 so let me know
if you need
thanks

I didn't buy them yet, but if you are using the factory switches they all use a factory wiring harnass'. Depending on the switch you have you need the appropriate harnass.

Dave -

Take pictures of your efforts, lots of notes - write up a story about what's involved and submit it to CAFCNA Magazine. You make $25 and see your name in lights - we get to share your find with EVERYONE.

Sounds like a good trade to me! ;D

Pendlum,
Since I have not heard anything I assume you didn't find anything. No problem, I can order from the dealer.

I assume once I get the wiring harnass I still won't know what each wire is for. I also assume I need to wire these switches into relays? I'd like to figure a good way to add a wiring block for these goofy switches. Does anyone have any experience making up a nice wiring block where relays and accessories can all be wired? I'm sure I can make something up, but if someone has a good hiding place and wiring design, I'd love to hear about it.
Thanks,
-Dave

In my '03 Z71, I put an auxillary fuse block and wiring terminal under the cupholders in the center console. There are 3 circuits on it, with relays out under the hood.

The problem you'll have is that you probably won't want the relays in the cab and you will want the wiring block in the cab... relays can be noisy and it could be irritating to hear them clicking on/off. This means a slightly more complicated install, but you'll be happier with the results.

Here's some info that I collected over the last few years. Someone told me that one of the export switches is no longer avaible. And "xxx" means that I haven't found that part number yet.

look, on the matter of the "aux lamps" switch, its use and how to wire it - it is a simply on-off push button switch, with an led indicator lamp when on, and backlit with the dash lighting. It fits in the left side of the OnStar cubby (if you don't have OnStar you will also need the 4 pod housing, and the blank face covers for the other holes (they come 5 to a pack). THe aux lamp switch only works on the left side (I have two, stacked on the left) because you would need to flip it to use it on the right side, and then your "aux lamps" would be upside down - not very oem looking!

can you use it to control aftermarket lights? Absolutely, mine run my PIAAs up front and my Hellas in the rear. Such kits come with their own relay, you will need to use them per the wiring advice that comes with.

How in the heck can you actually wire these switches up? If you bought one you will be asking yourself this same question, since they simply have a six prong female plug end built into the back of the switch (one of the 6 prongs is not active, I recall). You have two choices here - manually attach individual connectors to each of the little "lugs" (that'd would be micro surgery) and you can no doubt get the proper connectors at Radio shack, or you can build your own connector if you have the proper plastic male end available and the metal terminal that go inside. Was a Female Dog to source THOSE parts, but I did it from Pioneer Electronics. I am of the firm belief that you could also obtain this connector from the GM parts folks or from AC Delco IF you knew the part number, but I never had any luick there. For those interested in trying, pull a Silverado parts sheet and look for a plow-prep package.

and no, there is no magic wiring harness plug already in your Av just waiting for you to buy the switch and plug it in.

I did get the 15729517 export fog lamp switch just last week. Dal at Vandevere said that he couldn't get it, but it magically showed up on my door. Must not be many left. Maybe I should ebay it for $500. :0:

I have ordered but the harnass for the Aux lamp switch and the "export fog lamp" switch as it now seems to be called. I'll post the part numbers for the harnasses when I get them.

Of course I bet the wires won't be labeled, so I'll let you know what I figure out.

Here are the "Connector Replacement Packs" as they are called for the switches.

The Aux Lamp switch 15722980 uses the harnass part 15305931.

The export fog lamp switch 15729517 uses the harnass part 12101889.

15305931 is has 6 leads and 12101889 has 4 leads. All the wires are white, and as expected nothing is labeled. In the next few days I'll see if I can make up some labels and pictures.

I have the # 15305931 6 lead connector and want to hook up my aux light switch to my DRL's for DRL and NRL mode.

Anybody have a diagram to hook it up, backlit?

I've seen XRover's thread but I need to know for this factory switch so it's backlit like the rest of the dash and be able to work the DRLs same as the factory fog lights.

Thanks!

Greetings!

I have purchased a set of Piaa 540's which are already mounted on the Waag grille guard and waiting to be hooked up.

I appreciate the help provided by those who have done this (or the rear fog light install) in obtainign part numebrs and advice.

Using the part numbers in prior postings I consulted with GM parts direct and this is what I found out:

Part number 12193930 Connector for position C4 on the MBEC has changed to 15306107

Part number 12193922 Connector for position C9 on the MBEC has changed to 15306105

12064764 locking tabs for the 12177195 and 12129424 terminals for the MBEC connectors have been discontinued and GM parts direct did not provide any alternatives.

Any remaining pieces in previous posts by other members are apparently still valid.

So it's now off to Mom's to order the parts. (She works at a former olds dealer that still has their GM account through October)

I noted that the latest posting regarding the Aux switch was in May. I hope those of you who were working on this were successful and if anyone could, provide any further assistance on this.

Thanks and happy modding! :B:

Bringing back an oldie...

I would like to do the same thing....basically "on-demand" NRL's using the factory aux lamp switch in the 4 pod housing.  Been searching, but no luck so far...several discussions about it, but no clear directions on how to wire the switch/connector.  Any help would be appreciated.
