My 02 has 254K miles. Tranny issue was the only big issue I had with it and that was at 190K

hey guys any one have had a sqeuling/chirping niose i replaced my u joints thinking it was that and checked all the brakes not those there good i question a wheel bearing sounds like its coming from the rear and pulled off both back wheels and moved them around they seem all tight so i dont think a wheel bearing is it could it be one of those two back bushings in the transfer case it sounds like the noise could be coming from there when i jack it up and spin the drive shaft
thanks for any help you could give

I have 211000 miles on my 2002. I just had to replace the inner and outer tie rods and the idler arm as well as the sway bar linkage. Now if feels like it did the day I drove it off the lot.

I have 204k miles on my 2004 Avalanche. Not a single issue! I have a loaded Z71, I dont even have tears in the leather! No knocking, the only real noise I hear cone from the engine is just the lifters, for only 30 seconds after u start it, and you reaaallly have to be listening for it to notice. 4x4 works fantastic, I have zero issues/complaints! I have no loss of power and the Super 44 I have on it makes it sound like a race truck! Long live my Avy

EDIT: I do have the G80 rear locker. No issues!

Just joined and also just got my first Avalanche.  2002 Z71 with 224k when I got it, up to 226k now (3 weeks).  Only issue I've had so far is the CEL is on for knock sensor and had to replace the shifter cable this morning, but runs and drives amazing.

I hear you! I have a 2002 Z71 with 154,000 miles that I have owned for 7 years . The big problem I am having now is numerous code such as ABS sensor which I can live with , po 300 misfire code keeps coming up. The big problem is service engine light flashes at 60 mph and truck runs rough and wants to die at idle. At lower speeds no problem. My mechanic looked at it and said plugs 5 and 6 are misfiring big time . We checked the coil packs they are ok . plugs and wires are ok.The only thing remaining is lifters or camshaft or cat. Since 5 and 6 are in line on the same cam lobes maybe those lifters are hanging or cam shaft has issues. I also was told to clean the throttle body ,replace sensor under intake manifold, or replace the catalytic converter. Anyone out there have any suggestions i am stumped!!! Help!!!

i can speak on the abs sensor you pull of the wheel the brake the rotor and it has a single allen bolt holding it in it unplugs and your plug in a new one and i bought a c hub with a abs sensor for $60 so they can be to bad in price and probably irrelevant but how old are your knock sensors? i replaced myn it helped alot with timing and so on better mpg and thats the extent of my knowlage on engines so hope fully it was helpful good luck!! If your mechanic diagnosed the misfire to cylinders 5 and 6 by looking at additional codes/computer data, keep in mind the computer data isn't 100% accurate as to which cylinder is misfiring - it will often identify not only the problem cylinder, but also the ones that fire immediately before and after as well.  With 6 firing just before 5, you may only have a problem with one.

I would clean the throttle body as well as your MAF sensor and see where that gets you.  Those are both practically free fixes so I'd start with the simple easy and cheap before moving on to looking at the more expensive fixes.  I'd also suggest after those thinking about changing your front two O2 sensors if those are still original.

I have 218000 on my 2003 Z71 and still really love this truck.  I replaced the Tranny last summer and this summer did the same with the engine.    The engine had suddenly developed a loud ticking noise that could not be ignored.    I took it to the dealership they said it was a bad or worn cam lobe.  They could replace the cam shaft and rocker arms and perhaps something else but it would run $4500.  The new engine option was 2K more.  Since they are not making Av's anymore and since it had 218000 miles on it and since I haven't found a truck that could really replace it, I went for the new engine.  Brought it in on a Monday and got it back on Thursday.  Runs nice and feels solid.

2002 Pewter and cladded Avy...252,000 miles!!!

Just replaced the fuel pump...what a party that was...

Did you do the tank drop? I would have recommended cutting the hole in the floor under the backseat. It takes about 10 minutes to cut out and 2 minutes to change pump. Best thing is, if you plan on keeping yours for life like I am. The fact that I can change my fuel pump at anytime anywhere for the price of a fuel pump. As for damage to the truck there is non. When you are all done everything fits so nicely together you could never tell you cut it. I would recommend running a bead of silicone to help get a better seal. I added hinges and a hasp. I then have a speaker box that sit over it and then the seat on top of that.

I have a 2004 z71 with 212,000 on it.  Love it as much today as I did eight years ago when I bought it!  Getting close to rebuild time.  Any suggestions?
