2002-2006 Cladded rear bumper cubes

has anyone tried cutting into the rear cladded bumper for cube lights?

Cannot say I remember seeing that.
Some put lights in the side corner foot steps.
Others hand fromtrailer hitch...

And some like me put them under sail panel up high

But I think in this case the reinforcement bumper is right behind the plastic and you would probably have to cut that as well
 
I've looked for pictures on here but not much comes up.

there is a "dead" spot right where I put those circles...an empty space between the braces. was hoping someone else tried this before I drill a hole in my nice bumper
 
I guess it could be done but I would be concerned with putting lights in a "contact point" for your rear bumper where they could be easily broken in a parking lot mishap etc. Or that you would be drilling into 20 year old plastic that could lead to cracking and need to replace a large part of a rare color and style of AV cladding.
How about trying an alternative less invasive mounting like under the bumper?

ya I would need to look into a few places. I haven't seen the bumper step one your talking about though. I want them to look natural and not an add on, if that makes any sense
