Newbie here, and I've searched around and gotten alot of information on replacement bulbs, etc.  One of my headlights' reflectors broke of, so I ordered a new headlight assy from eBay.  It's here and I'll be putting it in soon.  I've got some Silverstars to go in for lows (both sides) and need to go ahead and get highs for both sides for uniformity.  As I look, there seems to be ALOT of options that I didn't know about before buying the Silverstars.  My comments/questions are:

I love HID's, but how expensive is it to convert?  Do you have to replace the entire assy, or is something like this link OK? If this is OK, are the bulbs with it good enough?  I don't want anything crazy happening like melting headlights, etc.!

If it's more involved and expensive than the above eBay link, what are my best options for a bulb replacement to give it the HID look and superior light output for night driving?  Am I best to stick with Silverstar?

Again, I need to do this on a VERY slim budget.  Your opinions are very much appreciated!  Thanks!

Lot of mixed reviews on Silverstars, if they are worth it. There is a lot of info on here if you do a search on HIDS. Price from 35 to several hundred.
I?m trying these out had in for about a month better than stock now see if they last.

I have been running silverstars low beams for many years in my Av. I just recently upgraded to the SS Ultra's when one of them went out. They seem like they are worth the extra $$ to me. Quite a bit brighter and a much wider beam pattern than stocks, and a bit brighter and wider beam pattern than the regular SS.

As far as the HID's go, they will not melt you headlights but you will need to install an highpower relay which involves running a few extra wires around. They are also brighter than even the SS Ultra's. I live in the country on hilly roads, so I have opted not to upgrade to the HID because I take being blinded by other folks that have them even on low when going over hills and around corners and such. The SS Ultras are a big step up compared to the stock bulbs. The wider beam helps me to spot deer alongside of the road even on low beam.

Here is a good video showing how to change out some of your front and main headlight bulbs on the early year Avalanches! Thanks to Flashback502! Note: I was able to change out my daytime running light bulbs without needing a u-tube video but that was back-breaking crawling under the front of my rig!
