I JUST SEARCHED THE SITE ABOUT THE FOG LIGHTS IN THE 2002 AVY WBH... I FOUND SOME THAT SAYS 9005 FIT IN 2003/04 YEARS... ARE THERE ANY OTHER BULBS OTHER THAN 8xx'S THAT CAN FIT IN THE 2002 FOG LIGHTS??? I KEPT LOOKING FOR IT IN PEPBOYS OR ANY AUTOMOTIVE STORE BUT THERE ARE NO XENON/WHITE BULBS... THEY ONLY HAVE 9003-9007 BULBS...

SORRY FOR MY CAPS... I HAD TO CUZ IM AT WORK AND THIS IS WHAT WE USE!!! THNX!!!

first 2002 did not have the WBH.....

so which version do youhave cladded or a WBH?

also check our resource section for your particular year and then click the owners manual...there is a listing of the bulbs used on the truck

my 2002 uses a 8xx bulb for the fog light which all auto part stores carry in my town

good luck

You shout at each other all day where you work? Where is that so I can avoid it (or at least wear ear plugs if I happen by)?

;) >:D

IM SORRY MINE IS CLADDED... ALL THE STORES HERE HAVE 8xx BULBS TOO BUT WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT WAS THE XENON BULBS / WHITE... IN 2003/04 AVALANCHE, THEY CAN PUT 9005 AS FOG LIGHTS, HOW COME WE CANT IN 2002?

i can't put 9005 bulbs in my foglight housing. as a matter of fact i kept my foglight bulbs from my '02 and put them in my '04. everything that was in the '02 i replaced with stock, and threw the ambers(3157), foglight(880), and Silver Star(9006) bulbs in the '04. 9005 is a high beam bulb.

WHEN I SEARCHED FOR FOGLIGHTS HERE IN CAFCNA, I FOUND MORE THAN 5 POSTS SAID THAT THEY PUT 9005 IN THEIR FOG LIGHTS AND IT WORKED FINE... THEY SAID THEY ARE JUST A LITTLE BIT WORRIED IN THE LONG RUN BECAUSE ITS A HIGH WATTAGE BULB... I WILL TRY TO LOOK FOR THE POSTS...

I also read this thread and was sold. I went to wally world yesterday and got the 9006silver stars @ $38 plus tax. Here is some obsevations about this mod:

1. This is the easiest upgrade I have ever done. It took me longer to get the bulbs out of the package, than it did putting them in. No tools required. I now am going to get the 9005 wagners from that brandsport site for both the fogs, and high beams.

2. The fog light design on the Av is MUCH better than the one on my 00 Sierra. I couldn't even tell when they were on on the old truck, but the WBH Av's fogs increase the field of vision by at least 50%. Its probably even more than that.

3. The silver stars are definately brighter and whiter than the stock.

This is a mod that everyone should do. I love this site man!

I put the silverstar 9006's in my lowbeams and the 9005's in my fogs. No problems as of yet. Should not melt the plastic in the fogs and does make the fogs alot brighter.

HERE IS ANOTHER ONE

I was the engineer responsible for the Fog/DRL on the Avalanche. I encouraged management to consider a "customer usable" fog lamp instead of the usual garbage they were offering at the time. It was a money thing.

There are no other bulbs that share the base design of the 8XX series bulbs (which by the way are crap as you know, both in performance and dimensional stability). Your vehicle came with 27W bulbs. I validated your lamps for up to 35 Watt bulbs. I'm sure that many have inserted 50W bulbs with few issues, but I wouldn't recommend doing so. I'm also sure that you could modify the lamp housing to package 9005's, but again I wouldn't recommend this.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way out of this dilema. If you decide to go with 50 Watt bulbs, be sure you keep your lenses very clean. Mud on the lens causes heat to build up internally and warp it.

I would definately not do any "all lights on at all times" mods like that because the extra heat given off by the DRL would compromise the lens.

Sorry for the news...

AVY 14...what you are quoting are posts from "WBH" specific threads...that is to say you are/were looking at posts related soley to the "Without Body Hardware" or "Without Cladding" Avs.
Those Avs...known as "Avarados" or "nekked Avs" or "Avs without pants" are completely different in several aspects...including lighting, fenders, grills, bowties, etc.
Now then...it appears you have a Cladded Av...also known as "the original"...so make sure that in the future you do not relate "mods" designed for "WBH specific" with the Cladded Av...
Stock Fog lamps on the cladded Avs are 27watt as mentioned by 805dre...an Excellant engineer who has Excellant advise...but with all due respect...some "by the book" advise has practical solutions that are NOT "by the book"...or what I endearingly refer to as
"Tactical to Practical"...I will ALWAYS LISTEN & RESPECT what 805dre has to say...and after some thought on the specific issue I may decide to make my own choice realizing the potential consequences of my decision to ignore the educated advise of "The Man".

Having givin you this disclaimer...you have some options regarding fog lamp bulbs for the cladded Av which I'm positive will cause 805dre to  :p :3: :6: and disapprove of...

Option one: stay with the dim stock 27 watters

Option two: change over to the 37 watt Sylvania 893 Silver Star...but...know that they have been a HUGE PROBLEM because Sylvania has a production issue that affects the bulb life and they are not lasting more than a week or so at best...I DON"T LIKE THIS OPTION until Sylvania improves the bulb...rumor has it they are...but it is NOT AVAILABLE yet... :6:

Option three: change over to 50 watt Sylvania 885 halogen...BRIGHT, have had ZERO issues, replaced my failed 893s with these; they are brighter and been in for 8 months now...NO ISSUES...BE WARNED ABOUT 50 WATTS...THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF MELTED HOUSINGS DUE TO THE HEAT PRODUCED BY THEM, but my research on this site shows that to be 50 watters that were installed on the WBH models that have a different and more shallow housing.

There are other options...but I will only give you what I have had experience with...and for the Cladded Av as of this time frame...the 50 watt Sylvania 885s are the way to go...
my 0.02

i kinda figured you may have been getting the two different trucks confused. i would not do the 50 watt bulbs personally. that's just me. i do have an extra set of fog/ drl housings laying around, but i am not willing to burn up a set either.

My 2004 WBH came with 37 watt fog lamps, not 27, so I guess this has changed either with the 2003 or 2004 model. I pulled one out and it is a Sylvania 9140. I've been looking for a white bulb to match my Silverstars, but I'm not sure if there is such a thing. I tried picking up an 896, but the plug doesn't match my existing one.

I am an engineer and most of what I do is in CAPS as well. But they do have a little key on the keyboard to switch between the two. Unless you have a special keyboard that does not have a Caps Lock.....

I'm an engineer, and I know how to work the capslock and shift keys on my computer. :)

WELL WHENEVER I GO TO THE INTERNET, I DO IT BEHIND MY BOSS' BACK... SO SWITCHING IS NOT REALLY A CHOICE OF MINE... IM AT WORK WHENEVER I GO TO THIS SITE BUT I WILL TRY MY BEST!!! STARTING THE NEXT POST!!

does IT really MATTER? I work IN a CPA office AND we USE all CAPS as WELL. how DID this POST go FROM a QUESTION regarding BULB numbers TO using OR not USING caps? DID i MISS something SOMEWHERE?

They are just busting your chops ;D Good luck with the lights, and oh yea, please use this key ;) ;D

here you go guys... well back to the topic... i heard so much negativity with 893's and other bulbs that they dont last long... i have no problems with 9006's... in fact i already have them... its just it doesnt look right with bluish (SP) low beam and yellow fogs... anybody recomend a good brand and where to buy it???

PS i dont wnt to buy from the net because the last time i bought something, somebody got a hold of my card # (the site said it was secured with the address starting with https://). :-[ so im not looking forward to buying anything from the net.

One more option for you: I have 893 Wanger Truview fogs (37w). They are bright white I can't really tell a difference in the color from Silverstars. I got the local NAPA to order them for me because of all of the talk about 893 Silverstars.

Just a thought.

Thank goodness you weren't the cladding engineer. At least around here.

I noticed today that if you run parking lights and fogs without doing the dome override thing, both the DRLs and foglights are on together. Is that correct, and is there any heat risk with both on. It looked cool in the tailgate of this lady's Durango.

Cladding:
TPO is a great material, but it shrinks/grows a lot with heat/cold. I know that the guys I worked with had struggled to get it right because the panels were so large. I have a few spots that are popping and I'm not too happy about it, but I'm not skilled enough to fix it without removing the whole panel and refitting. I'm glad I was electrical/lighting/audio because I didn't have to deal with the cosmetics - makes life miserable during launch.

You're correct. I was reffering to a situation with 50W bulbs installed (sorry I didn't clarify).

In response to I CHNG comments - thanks for the comp (much appreciated, it makes up for the overtime pay I didn't get). I understand that if others want to do the mods, that's a great thing. It's not my place to approve / disapprove of anyones ideas. I just want to give the info so that the risks can be assessed - in many cases, it's no big deal. The wiring will support 50W bulbs - no risk. If you end up with a melted housing, it's easy to replace. No danger in this case other than a few bucks to the wallet.

I was fortunate to be a part of the vehicle program and am a true fan (especially since I have one now). I'm happy to help out by giving up the info that I gathered, as I enjoy helping people (parts are expensive to replace).

I have to say that this is the best thought out vehicle I've come across, the little details make all the difference. Like the hook for the gas cap leash to keep it off the body, and, in answer to one of my pet peeves, the parking brake release is not directly in front of the pedal, which on all my previous vehicles(Ford and GM) was. In the winter when you released the brake, wet and slush was flung right onto my hand. Good job on that. The armrest console in the back seat (2002) is perfect for my 8 year olds. I understand the new ones aren't as good, maybe mention that. The little seatbelt repositioners for kids are great.

I'm still finding little details that show you all were really thinking. My wife is still a little freaked out about the speed sensitive volume, and the auto headlights, but she thinks a vehicle is to get from point A to point B. She won't get rid of her 92 Volvo because the new ones aren't square.
